Perfect location, lovely hosts!
Captain’s Cottage is a fantastic treat! From it’s perfect location, to the amazing view and the wonderful hosts that are very accommodating and treat you like VIPs, we were impressed with everything. The home was neat and tidy. We were supplied with linens, there were spices in the cabinet, coffee and tea, and even a few things in the fridge to get us started. We were treated to the most delicious cookies, (or should I call them biscuits?), made by John with a fresh bowl of fruit on the table. The kitchen is equipped adequately to cook if you choose, but there are also many fantastic restaurants within walking distance. It is located close to the bus stop and a great little place to get delicious coffee at the top of the hill. The best thing about its location is the coastal walk which is steps away. You can take in the most breathtaking views as you walk or run the 6km from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach.
We enjoyed relaxing on our patio to take in the beauty of the ocean as well as sleeping with the doors open to allow the surf to lull us to sleep. In the morning the rainbow lorikeets came for breakfast. It was fantastic to see them fly in and perch in the trees, decorating them like Christmas trees.
I do have to say they very best feature of this home are the hosts, John and Elise. To have someone close to call on if needed, especially for us being in a different country, is comforting. The special touches they added left us feeling more like family than tenants. We would definitely recommend Captain’s Cottage to anyone looking for great place to stay. It exceeded all of our expectations! We cannot wait to go back.
An excellent location with welcoming owners. It is comfortable but in need of some refurbishment.
This was our 3rd stay here. We continued to enjoy the hospitality of John and Elise, John's special treats, the sea views and the proximity to the coastal walkway, which we used on a regular basis.

While the owners were very welcoming and made every effort to ensure that we could enjoy our stay I have to say that we were very disappointed with the overall quality of the accommodation. It was damp, poorly lit and cramped for space. The bedroom was too small for 2 people. The kitchen cupboards and equipment were dated and there was an unpleasant, musty smell emanating when cupboards were opened. The air conditioner was too noisy to use effectively.
The saving grace was the balcony which we did enjoy as it overlooked the ocean and had good light.
The owner feeds the lorikeets early every morning which attracts them in large numbers but means that the screeching of the birds is horrendous at 6.00 am. I made a point of going for a walk every morning at that time in order to avoid it all. The owner is hard of hearing and may not be fully aware of the noise but I am sure his neighbours are!
The owner took the trouble to show us the rest of his house all of which was beautifully equipped and furnished. The flat we stayed in however is in need of a major makeover.
For more than 21 years we have offered accommodation in our unit. We renewed the facilities 2 years ago. Re- tiled the bathroom with tiles up to the ceiling. Built - in a double wardrobe in the bedroom.A library of books approximately 80 - 100 for guests to read & or exchange if they want to. The fan is quite new only bought a year ago. We have checked it & there is nothing wrong with it. There is a large window in the bedroom & a door leading out on to the balcony - security screens on all the doors & windows in the unit. Reading lights above the beds + ceiling lights. Eat - in kitchen , with large window, cooking facilities, pots, pans, cutlery etc. There is a brand new washing machine only 8 months old & a small refrigerator in good & clean working condition. We have a " dumb waiter" in the kitchen where John from time to time makes & sends down Crepe Suzettes with Hawaiin Liquor or Apple Strudel to the tenants. John used to be a chef cook & a pastry cook. After each tenant leaves the unit is thoroughly cleaned & the carpets are shampooed.
We are registered with Randwick Council & as such have to abide by their rules & regulations.They can at any time request to inspect the property. We ourselves do travel a lot & only stay in clean, quality accommodation.

Very misleading and disappointing. The owner was intrusive. He fed the Larakeets in the garden and on our (private) terrace every morning at 6.00 a.m. We are not talking a few birds here but up to 100 full size parrots. The noise was unbelieveable and woke us every morning. We were also disgusted to find that when we dropped something on the floor, under the bed, the floor was covered in debris including used tissues and various stains. After our first night I left a small wine glass on a worktop in the kitchen and in the morning found that it had 6 cockroaches inside. I put these outside and on returning to the kitchen saw another 3 live cockroaches. I informed the owner who responsed by stating that he would get pest control to deal with it, which happened the day before we left. We returned from a morning's excursion to find 3 pest controllers spraying pesticides inside our apartment and over our clothes and luggage. Surely this could have waited until we left. My wife found it very distressing. The apartment was not cheap and was not what we expected at all.
We welcome guests when they arrive & always provide tea/coffee, sugar, milk, a bowl of fresh fruit & a plate of homemade biscuits. John used to be a Pastry cook & enjoys baking, so is very happy to provide extra treats. A specialty of his is Crepe Suzettes & Apple Strudel.We take time to explain about the use of the washing machine, Intercom, where the pots, plates,extra pillows blankets etc are kept.A fan in the summertime or a heater in the wintertime is provided. Layback chairs & chairs & round table on the large balcony. The unit is thoroughly cleaned every time that we have new tenants. Bed linen changed weekly - towels changed twice a week. We have a book shelf of books for those who enjoy reading - just help yourself.
We have a lot of very colourful Lorikets who visit our garden everyday & John derives great pleasure in feeding them. It is a great attraction for most of our tenants, some of whom help John with feeding the birds & they take their own photos of this event.
There is a Rock Pool within 5 minutes walk away for those who enjoy an early morning swim.
We are situated halfway between Coogee & Maroubra beaches.
There is a Boardwalk which starts or finishes here in Cuzco St.. This walk will take you all the way to Bondi Beach.
There are many brochures in the unit for you to have a look at - from the many Sydney attractions. It is only a short walk up the street to the bus stop. The 376 or 377 will take you to the city. The 353 will take you to Bondi Junction.
We have a visitors book in the unit with nothing but praise & we have been renting out our unit for the last 20 years. Many guests returning several times.
The Inspector from the council comes fom time to time to inspect our property.

Brillant stay with wonderful seaview
We had a wonderful at "Top view 52". The great care of John & Elise, a quiet unit near the ocean with a wonderful seaview.....a great place to relax near to Sydney an Coogee. We will come back...

What a treat! The Captain's Cottage was a perfect landing pad for us after travelling for 28 hours from the UK.
John & Elise are wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble.
Fruit bowl, milk, tea, coffee and home made biscuits were waiting for us on check in and later in the week we were spoiled with fresh crepes whipped up by John (gluten free for me!)
The cabin is right on the Coogee to Bondi coastal path, has a sun deck overlooking the ocean where you can sit and watch the sunrise & set, sunloungers if you like to sunbathe and was a real home from home.
