Acerca de este alojamiento

Renovated Rustic Beautiful Townhouse

Traditional Spanish townhouse in the charming “Casco Antiguo” , at the foot of the stairs that lead up to the entrance of the castle. This house is a beautiful old townhouse, renovated to preserve its rusticity. Bright and cozy, it provides a cool respite during the hotter months. There is a rooftop terrace where you can relax with your morning coffee and enjoy a splendid view of the church bell tower. Overall, it is an ideal place to stay if you want to stay in the Casco Antiguo of Salobrena.

The house features a cozy, rustickitchen with an oven and gas cooktop, refrigerator with a small freezer, juicer, washing machine, and a breakfast table. On the bottom floor there is a living room with a sofa, dining table, TV and satellite, stereo, radio, books left by travelers, a few DVDs, and a few board games.
There are two bedrooms; a master with a comfortable queen-size bed, and a guest bedroom with two single beds and an entrance to the terrace.
The house has one bathroom with a bathtub/shower, sink, and toilet.
Access to the terrace is through the guest bedroom, and deck furniture is provided: a table, four chairs, and two reclining beds.

For your safety, a first aid kit is provided.

This house has everything you need for a comfortable, colorful place from which to explore the coast, the province, or your own capacity for relaxation.

Check-in: Flexible, as long as it is not on the same day as a guest checking out of the same house. If a guest is checking out on the day you would be checking in, you can arrive from 13:00 on and leave your luggage in the house while it is finished being prepared.
Parking is usually available on the street. During high season (summer and Christmas), finding a spot can be more challenging, and you may have to park in the lower part of town. But don’t lose heart; for even then, more often than not, a space can be found up top. The streets are narrow with many sharp turns; therefore, a large SUV would not be recommended (even though the town bus navigates the town on a routine basis). The beach is only 15 minutes by foot. The lower part of town, which is newer, and spread out over a larger area — with many additional shops, groceries, restaurants, and bars — is only a 5- to 15-minute walk, depending on where you need to go. If you don’t want to walk, there is a bus that goes from the church (the stop by the church is 50 meters from the house) all parts of town, as well as the neighboring town of Caleta.
A car is not essential, but it is recommended, especially if you would like to visit neighboring beaches and towns (there are many), the nearby city of Motril, Granada (45 minutes by car), or the Alpujarras.
Salobreña has ample beach front, all of it open to the public. It is divided in two by El Peñon rock, a large outcrop of rock that provides a relaxing place for a stroll or a contemplative place to sit and gaze out at the sea. All along the beach are beachside restaurants (“chiringuitos”), popular restaurants and bars that provide the freshest seafood imaginable (most of it caught that morning or the day before). If not in the mood for seafood, they also serve grilled meats.
There are a number of destinations to check out while staying in Salobrena. Granada with the Alhambra, its famous Arab Quarter (the Albaicin), and its grand cathedral, which houses the burial plots of Isabella Catolica and her husband, King Ferdinand, is but a 50-minute drive by car. The city of Motril, which provides more extensive shopping and live flamenco, is only four km away. The Alpujarras, the string of villages on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevadas, renowned for its jamon, artisanal products, flea markets (Orgiva), and spas (Lanjaron), and made famous by the English writer Gerald Brennan, is 30 minutes to an hour away, depending on which towns you want to visit. Nerja, known as “The Balcony,” is a scenic town on the Costa del Sol. In addition to restaurants, shops, and buggy rides, its famous caves are a destination unto themselves. Many of the towns along the coast are worth visiting, however, you will find that unlike Salobrena, most suffer from being either overbuilt with high-rises and condos, an overabundance of non-Spaniards who have to some degree spoiled their authentic nature and feel of Spanish towns. That is not the case with Salobrena, which is why we love our town so much. Oh, and right next door, an easy walk down the beach, is the village of La Caleta, which until recently was home to Europe's last sugar cane factory, where one of the finest rumsin the world is still made.
Access to both the old coastal highway (slower, more scenic) and the major coastal highway (faster) just five minutes or so from the house.
The international airport in Malaga is one and a half hours by car; two and a half by bus.Granada also has an airport, but only a few airlines operate there, and virtually all flights are to Madrid or Barcelona. Salobreña has a bus station with regular services to all neighbouring towns.
It is very easy and cheap to rent a car in Malaga (we recommend Malaga Car). We do NOT recommend “hiring” from the airport! If you need to get a taxi to go to Salobreña from airport, we would be happy to recommend one.

The Old Town of Salobreña is full of life, and it retains its authentic flavor of Spain. It is not a tourist enclave, but a neighborhood of friendly locals with a smattering of ex-pats mixed in. It is therefore, this property is not a beach condo, or a hillside villa with a pool that requires a car to do anything, but a house in the old town from which to experience both the luxuries of vacation, as well as the daily life of a authentic Spanish village.
At the very top of the rock upon which the town sits (105 metres above sea level), is the Arabic fortified castle, El Castillo, the entrance to which is less than 100 meters up the street (a walking street of stairs) from the house. Every year the castle attracts thousands of visitors, and it provides spectacular views of the surrounding area. Just below the castle is the parish church, built in the “Mudejar” style atop an ancient mosque.
Four restaurants and bars and two small groceries are within a few minutes walk of the house, as are the original town square and the town museum. The beach is only a 15-minute walk. And if you don’t want to walk, there is a bus that takes riders up and down the hill every day but Sunday.
The neighborhood
The Old Town of Salobreña is the old Arab Quarter of town, dating back over 1000 years to when the castle was built as a summer retreat for the then Moorish king of Granada, and the surrounding village arose on its flanks. With its whitewashed houses and narrow streets, the town is full of life and the spirit of Spain. It is a neighborhood of friendly people, not a tourist enclave. For fans of classical guitar, one of its most famous luminaries, Andre Segovia, lived in the Old Town, and every day when not traveling, he would, with his friends, sit on the squat cement wall right in front of our house, smoke cigarettes, and discuss the issues of the day. The walking street that leads up to the castle from our house is named after him.
A car is not essential, but it is recommended, especially if you would like to visit neighboring beaches and towns (there are many), the nearby city of Motril, Granada (45 minutes by car), or the Alpujarras.
