A lovely 10 days in Antigua
We really enjoyed our stay at Palm Tree House - thank you Clare for all your advice and restaurant recommendations. The house is very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. I can’t think of anything we wanted that wasn’t there! Lots of local facilities and a very convenient supermarket. The weather was particularly hot and humid- even for those who are used to it - but the pool and the a/c dealt with that. The garden is beautiful.
Keiflin and Ira were very helpful. It makes all the difference being met at the airport and having a mid stay clean was great.
Many restaurants were closed as it was off season, but there were plenty open to keep us happy. Castaways on the beach was fine but we particularly liked the little beach bar next to it - they do the best rum punch. Miracles round the corner do a great curry goat - other things looked good too. Sheer Rocks was my favourite (after the beach bar!) but also the most expensive. Turners does the best snapper.
It will be nice for the area when the hotel over the road is finished. There was only one day when there was much noise and we went to the beach.
Thanks again Clare - I hope we will be back
So glad you enjoyed your holiday at Palm Tree House.
The air conditioning was updated this summer, 2019 , brand new units , this is vital in the heat.
The meet and greet service we provide is very important to us to ensure our guests are not stressed on arrival after exiting the airport, we like to welcome you both at the airport and at th house, by our housekeeper Keiflin. And to see you safely home at the end of your stay by the lovely Ira our driver.
Good to know about the rum punch , will give that a go in October . And Sheer Rocks is just around the corner for that amazing sun downer moment , just stunning.
I look forward to welcoming you again soon.
We spent an amazing 10 nights in Antigua staying in a fantastic villa. Palm tree villa was everything we expected and more. The owner made sure everything was catered for and Keflin made sure we had everything we needed, we would definitely use Palm tree villa again if we return to Antigua.
Such a pleasure to welcome this family to Palm Tree House and the island of Antigua.
I am so glad you had a wonderful holiday, our Palm Tree Team do their best to ensure you are welcomed and looked after .
Ira our driver is such a welcome sight at the airport after a lengthy international flight, often with young children, everyone is stressed and tired and his welcome card is reassuring.
Keiflin is at the villa to welcome you with the welcome pack chilling in the fridge , always a joy !
I hope we can welcome you again to the lovely island of Antigua soon.
Charming house, wrong situation
We came to Carebbean to be on the beach. We rented a house with beach pictures... however, no sea view, no beach on the ground despite the pictures showed, whatever the description is!
I clearly state on the site we are a 5 minute drive from the best beaches in the Caribbean.
At no time have I said we are on the beach.
The photos demonstrate the fabulous places to eat and drink.
The phots have a caption that states the name of the restaurant and how far they are from the house.
If you would have liked a sea view , during sailing week , the houses are 5 times the price and usually booked up years in advance.
I asked you before you booked which marina you were sailing from. You didn’t reply to that nor anything else I asked you. It transpires that you were sailing from the other side of the island .
The site had to request payment repeatedly .
I asked you to correspond with me , the home owner, and not my housekeeper .
I asked you repeatedly for flight details and eventually you informed me you would be hiring a car at the airport. I reminded you that fitting in 5 suitcases into a jeep would be difficult and I sent our driver to assist.
You also gave me the wrong departure date.
I send all my guests a lengthy missive with useful information to assist in their booking. It is your responsibility to read this missive. Quite why you suggest correspondence was limited is beyond me.
We love our house as do the other guests , who repeat book on a yearly basis .
I am happy to help any one who enquires whether or not they book with us in order to promote the lovely little island of Antigua.
A perfect home from home
We adore staying at Palm Tree House. It’s spacious, comfortable, and totally relaxing. The house has everything you need or want, the pool is fabulous and the garden is exotic and tropical. There are four toilets and three bathrooms, which is always a bonus. The laundry room has a washing machine and dryer...very useful! The supermarket is only a short walk away, as are the stunning beaches. Lovely restaurants are close by...you can walk to them...and they offer a great selection of food and drink. The owners are meticulous about ensuring that everything is working smoothly. For us, it really is a home from home....which is why we go there every year.
Thank you for your kind review . We lov that you love the house and Antigua as we do and we agree ,the location is excellent, minutes from the best beaches , Darkwood was named in the top 10 in the world. Still unspoilt and family owned .
The house means a lot to us and we re invest every year , constantly updating and maintaining it and the garden is my real love , you can never have enough plants !
We are helped by a super little team of local Antiguans who manage the house and garden with us and care as much as we do in ensuring our guests have the best holiday experience. I look forward to welcoming you for your 4 th visit in 2020 .
Charming villa in fantastic location. Everything you need for a great holiday.
After a long journey it was great to be picked up and taken to our villa. Waiting for us was a cold drink and rum and Keiflin who showed us around the villa explaining how everything works. The villa is very well maintained with everything you need for a fab holiday. Outside is the jewel in the crown. A fab seating area, fans to keep you cool, great deck and cool pool. You will spend most of your time outside. Lovely tropical garden.
The area is five minutes in car to Jolly Harbour where you will find supermarket etc. Also some great restaurants. Here are a few that we enjoyed.
Mellinis,Al Porto, Crows Nest. Great live music will get you up on your feet.
At the end of the road near house is Miracles. Lovely food. Went twice.
Beaches are stunning. We drove along past all of them on first day and decided Ffreyes was the one for us. Dennis’s beach bar and white sand plus pale blue sea equals the perfect day.
It is best to hire a car and this is organised by Keiflin who will have it waiting for you on your arrival. Clare is a superb owner who obviously takes a lot of time to ensure you have a great time. She couldn’t have been more helpful. On our last day we were able to stay at villa till late as our flight was a night one. That is such a bonus.
All in all it was an amazing holiday in an amazing place.
Negatives? We had a couple of little problems but Clare and Keiflin did their best to sort them out. Didn’t spoil a thing.
Car wash next to house but noise intermittent and bearable plus we headed our to beach every day.
Would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday but with enough nightlife to keep you going.
I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday with us. I felt quite envious when you sent me a photo from Dennis bar !
We especially love his bread pudding with rum sauce after a Sunday lunch .
We had the pool completely re done last year ,2018, and the cleaning company send photos after their weekly maintenance visit because the pool cleanliness is so vital.
We love meeting our guests at the airport, especially after long flights, and try to ensure guests are able to remain in the house until their flight departs so you can enjoy the sunshine .
I look forward to welcoming you again to Palm Tree House.
Nice villa shame about the noise
The villa is very clean and spacious - the Christmas tree was an unexpected treat thank you.
The area is ideal, just a ten-minute walk to a good supermarket and Jolly Harbour which was full of great restaurants and bars. We really enjoyed Melini’s (3 meals there) and Miracles just up the road from the villa.
We took in a visit to Montserrat and a day sail charter with Red Sails…. really good local guys who were the best cooks and snorkel guides.
Must visits are Nelson’s Dockyard (the café near the boats does a bacon roll to die for!) and Half Moon Bay… complete paradise.
We have rented villas, cottages, cabins and condos all over the world for the last twenty years or so and understand the risk of not knowing what you’re really going to turn up to.
We must admit this time unfortunately we were unlucky.
Unknown to us at the time as we arrived in the dark, opposite the villa there is a four storey (126 room) hotel under construction, just a road’s width away.
On our first morning we were woken by the noise of pneumatic wrench’s, the site was craning in and erecting the steel frame construction for the hotel, clearly the structure was around 50% complete.
We were unable to have a conversation outside at the table or in the pool area, so having pool days was definitely off the cards.
The site has been ongoing for around 2 years.
Thankfully for us we had to only endure the noise for a week before they stopped for the holidays.
This is something to take into account for the future - as the construction progresses there will be more activity. The construction traffic using the access road past the villa is breaking up the surface of the road and when raining it is very muddy.
We had problems with the AC which broke down at the end of our first week. AC engineers came out twice but this was unable to be fixed so for the majority of the rest of our stay we had no AC.
Adjacent to the villa there is also what looks like a car washing/valet business which uses a noisy petrol power washer… 7 days a week.
Overall we enjoyed our stay in this area of Antigua - the villa itself was lovely, it’s just a shame that we weren’t made aware of the issues mentioned above.
I find your review peculiar because I understand from our housekeeper, keiflin , you thoroughly enjoyed your stay.
The hotel build behind the house has been ongoing for 2 years , I believe they have now run out of money. It is clearly stated in reviews on line and in the house reviews book and no guest has found it to impinge on their holiday.
This is regarded as the price of progress in Antigua, many local people and the government want more hotel beds to bring income and jobs to a relative poor island . The road is no different to so many on the island , true it would not be appropriate in the uk but nor would the cars , most would not pass an MOT!
We are hoping the hotel when finished will offer our guests enhanced facilities , gym , pool as most hotels offer a day pass . We have watched Sugar Ridge opposite being built over the years and now many of our guests enjoy a day there in different surroundings.
With regards to the air conditioning you called out our engineer , who responded each time but even he was baffled by the unit tripping.
If guests leave the door from the master bed open and the front door the air con can not cope.
Despite our housekeeper showing guests how to work the unit many seem to struggle, I shall leave written instructions advising guests not to turn it off every time they go to the beach or out for the day.
The house heats up when the unit is turned off and then struggles to cool down on your return .
We have had guests just left after a 2 month stay , they wanted to stay another month , it is their third year with us and they now call the house their second home and have booked for 2020 they love it so much.
With our house you are minutes from some of the best beaches in the world , Darkwood was voted in the top 10 in the world and great restaurants . We have had the house for. 16 years now so I understand if some guests don’t understand Antigua, it is still a relatively poor island but the people are friendly and the sun shines and they don’t measure the gin, it works for us and so many of our guests who we love to share the island with .
