Would stay again
This place worked very well for our stay. It was about an 11 minute walk to the Stadium Armory Metro station. Coming back in from downtown, there were lots of restaurants and stores at the Eastern Market station that made it easy to get off and on again. The apartment was clean and comfortable. It did not have two beds in the second bedroom which was a real disappointment for us because that was the real reason we chose this place. The couch was comfortable though and would have made out into a bed. There were plenty of linens/pillows available. The washing machine doesn't work, but the listing had alluded to that so we were not surprised, but it would be nice if it did. There were ants in the kitchen, but there was ant spray available. We sprayed good the first day or two and didn't see many after that. We were glad we had brought extra ziplocks and containers to store food in. We had the wrong code for check-in, but a quick text to the manager got that straightened out. Overall, the place was just what we needed and except for a few inconveniences, it was great.
If you like ants and cold showers, stay here!
I read the reviews and figured a minor ant problem was no big deal. This place is infested! The first night, ants swarmed my neatly packed tote filled with snacks and breakfast items. I threw out a good portion of food as a result. There were no crumbs or messes to attract them. There were ants in every room of this place, in the shower, in the toilet. I had to brush dead ants off the bottom of my feet when climbing into bed at night after stepping on them all over the apartment.
The bathroom floor was rotted soft. We did our best to straddle the middle of the floor so as not to put weight on it and fall through. It had a significant slope which challenged one's balancing skills. After I pointed out the serious danger this floor imposed, the property manager hired someone to begin fixing the floor the day before we left.
The water heater is malfunctioning. It worked intermittently for the second half of our stay resulting in the 5 of us taking multiple cold showers on various mornings/nights and having to wash dishes with cold water. One night I had a child crying through his shower. We did our own troubleshooting on the error code displayed on the unit which is showing that the water heater is unable to ignite.
Other issues: Someone burned food and/or smoked in the place before we got there, and the smoky smell remained for our entire stay, the bottom sheet on our bed looked suspicious and we changed it immediately, the keys were left in an open/unsecured lockbox on our arrival, and the cable box doesn't work in the 2nd bedroom (won't turn on).
As stated in the house rules, we contacted the runner for this property with all of these issues. He first offered us a discount, then offered for us to leave and get a refund, then offered to move us to another property, but none were available. If there was a single hotel room available in DC that slept 5 people and that I could afford, I would have left in a heartbeat. He also scheduled a plumber who didn't show up. I'm still waiting to hear if the property manager is going to offer us that discount/refund for all of the problems we experienced. Two nights before our departure I finally contacted the property manager (whom I was only to contact in an emergency). She started making calls to get an exterminator and plumber out to us, but it was too little, too late with them coming a day before our departure.
Pro: Short walk to metro so you can stay away all day!
I can only say that this is a beautiful two bedroom home that sleeps 6 persons.
This apartment home boasts of 100% Egyptian Linen on all the beds.
There are three beds, a queen bed in the master and two full-size beds in the other room.
There is also a pull-out sofa in the living room.
If you are visiting the Capitol Hill area, this is a great place, and a great bargain.
Bathroom Needs Work
This rental met our basic needs. I would not choose to stay here again if we were returning to D.C. I'm glad I took a bar of soap from the hotel we stayed at over the weekend, there were only 2 small bottles of shampoo found in the bathroom upon arrival. The bathroom floor has a serious dip that caught me off guard and caused me to lose my balance. It seems as though the floor is rotten under the tile, therefore causing the dip. The bathroom window is located in the shower/tub and has mildew and rotten wood. We also experienced a significant amount of ants in the bathroom.
Washing machine washes clothes at a very hot temperature, even when warm or cold are selected.
I sent the washing machine and ant concern to the maintenance contact, but did not receive a satisfactory response or that the issues were resolved.
Housekeeping doesn't effectively dust the furniture, quite a bit of dust on the night stands and television console table. The central air vents and bathroom vents could also use a good wipe down.
On a positive note, the beds were comfortable and central a/c worked wonderfully considering it was a very hot and humid week in D.C.
Clean apartment close to subway
Very clean apartment! Felt safe walking the few blocks to subway with my children.
Good location, ample parking. The only cons were ants in the kitchen and loud neighbors. The neighbors were friendly enough, just noisy. The location is prime! Close to a local coffee shop and little market.
