Our 3 week stay at Casa del Mayar
Of all the places we have stayed in Tucson, this is now our favorite. Nestled within desert vegetation and just across the road from the Saguaro East National Park, we were serenaded by coyotes every night. We saw a family of javalina (one group just outside our door), 2 roadrunners (one in the tree in the backyard), lots of quail and woodpeckers, and a coyote which ran across our front patio, on his way to lunch. The ribbony gravel roads all throughout the neighborhood are great for morning walks - so many birds! And so close to the national park, making it very easy to access miles of hiking through the Rincon Mts. The casita itself is very private, comfortable and cozy, nicely decorated, well managed, and equipped with everything you could possible need. If you like the feeling of being in the natural desert without neighbors close by and enjoy desert wildlife, this is your place. We will be back!
Perfect base for our Tucson vacation
My husband and I were thrilled when we drove up to this casita. It was perfect, inside and out, for our trip to explore Saguaro National Park. Never having stayed in this style home in the desert, we drank it all in and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The owner could not have been more helpful and responsive. Thank you for making our visit very memorable.
At Home in the Desert
Arriving from the polar vortex that enveloped three weeks of January and February in Michigan we were looking forward to our favorite hikes in East and West Saguaro National Park (NP), Tucson Mountain Park, Sabino Canyon, Catalina State Park , our favorite places to eat, activities at UA, Tucson museums, and all our favorite field trips (Nogales, Tubac, Pipe Organ, Kartchner Caverns, Sedona, Bisbee and more). La Casita was our first stay on the east side in nine years of Tucson visits and what an extraordinary experience. Our first morning we woke up to snow, not just hit the ground and melt snow but beautiful picturesque snowfall that lasted all day. We photographed Javelina crossing the front yard of La Casita leaving their footprints. Saguaro East NP closed off the loop drive and trails, even though they had the highest entrance numbers this year. The next day was sunny, Rincons still completely covered and the snow melt inhibited our favorite Saguaro East hike. So unusual to see flowing water everywhere. The more typical weather returned by the end our visit.
LaCasita allowed us to participate in an evening Star Party at the NP East entrance with many large telescopes and an opportunity for Morgan to use is new astro photography skills. I also found a favorite sunset hike at the Broadway NP trailhead just less than one mile from LaCasita, with parking. We also went there one evening for astro photos. Speedway NP Trailhead, about three miles away is also convenient for a flat terrain hike.
After a full day of hiking or field trips, coming home every evening to LaCasita was peaceful, comfortable and charming. It met all our needs and more. We saw in the front yard: javelina, coyote, jack rabbit, gamble quail, roadrunner, cactus wren and cardinals to name a few. Thank you for the opportunity.

A lovely week at La Casita!
We just got back from a very enjoyable stay at La Casita. The house is so cute and comfortable, and the view of the mountains is just spectacular. The house is very clean and comfortable, and it has everything you might need for your visit. The kitchen, dining, living area is an open floor plan, which is nice. The master bedroom was very comfortable, and Karine, the owner, has nice linens on the bed. The Casita is across from the east entrance to Saguaro National Park. The Casita is located on the outskirts of the city, which we liked, but it did take about 20 minutes to get into the city. That was fine with us, because the location of the Casita is quiet and beautiful with lovely views. We enjoyed exploring Tucson, and there are so many fun things to do. We visited the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, which we would highly recommend, and we had a guided hike in Saguaro National Park, which was also excellent. We had a fun morning visiting the museum on the campus of the University of Arizona, and we had a great lunch at The Dutch across from the main gate of the campus. Mt. Lemmon was just beautiful, and we took a day trip to Tubac, which was fun. All in all, it was a fun visit, and La Casita was a great place to stay. We were very happy and we will definitely return for another visit.
Thank you so much for this amazing review!
I'd just like to add a small detail here that will be helpful for future travelers: our casita is situated as you said at the edge of the Saguaro East Park, but at only one mile from the City limits.
Next big shopping center is conveniently located at 4 minutes drive.
With much gratitude for your wonderful appreciation and rating and we look forward to welcoming you again soon!

Rural, quiet, but convenient
Rural, but convenient to stores and a few restaurants. Trails are a mile away. We really enjoyed it.
A Gem in the Desert
This is a special place away from the city but close to anything you might need. We arrived very late but the lights were on and the first thing to greet us were the beautiful flowers and candy. The Casita was clean, warm, inviting, and comfortable.....especially the bed! Privacy is a plus since there is no drive-by traffic. Sitting outside viewing the beautiful scenery was priceless. Saguaro Corners Restaurant/bar, a few miles away on Old Spanish Trail was a favorite. We liked to sit by the window so we could enjoy the fountain, scenery, and the many birds at the feeders.
Karine and Jean, the owners, were responsive from the booking to questions and requests while there. We would definitely recommend this property!
