Convenient, but expensive
We were a bit surprised when we saw the apartment building: it's central, and looks out onto pretty hotels and the church, but the apartment building itself is worn out and depressing. The whole of Cortina seems to be a mixture of beautifully renovated buildings/houses/restaurants, and others which are practically falling apart.
The apartment is central, which is very convenient, but also noisy. The bars opposite play very loud music late into the night, meaning we had to close the windows to get any peace (in summer temperatures).
The apartment itself is very well set up. We've never had such a well equipped kitchen. If you don't want to eat out every night, you can really cook like at home. The only criticism we had of the department's furnishings were the mattresses on the four single beds. Two are old and saggy, two are new but as hard as the floor. The mattresses in the main bedroom are perfect.
Warning to others: the apartment does have a balcony, but too small to use for eatings meals etc. So you're inside the whole time.
Communication with the landlord was excellent, as were the arrangements for arrival and organisation of little details like rubbish and recycling.
Overall, once we'd accustomed ourselves to the dismal building, we were happy with this choice. It still seems very, very expensive for what it was though.
Thank you for your opinion, it contains interesting points for reflection.
As you say, Cortina is a pearl, and it is a pearl precisely because a strict criterion is applied in the construction. The building in which the apartment is located is an emblematic building of the city, built in the centre of the city and is about forty years old. It may or may not like it, but the building has personality and is well maintained and every year the owners invest a lot to maintain it according to the canons of the place and with a concierge. For this reason, I assure you that many of the owners are part of the establishment of the Country.
About the noise with open windows ... the apartment is in the center, a few steps from the coolest places (which still comply with city noise regulations) and therefore, leaving the windows open is obvious that you hear people talking on the street and music if present. In the evening temperatures drop a lot in Cortina and once the windows are closed the external noise is not a problem as the windows have just been changed and are doing their job. In winter, of course, there is no temptation to open them.
We appreciate the comment on the very well equipped apartment where you found yourself, thank you. For the mattresses the theme is complicated, there are those who love the hard and those who love the soft... and so in the house we tried to please everyone a bit. The 6 mattresses have 3 different textures to meet all guests. Thanks for the tip.
The balcony has a depth of 1 meter, is not designed for eating (also in the mountains for energy reasons there is a tendency not to make deep balconies to take advantage of the positive contributions of the sun through the windows), also because the days when temperatures allow it are few, so decided by the architect of the building and we can not do anything unfortunately.
For our part, we transmit all the information and photos so that each customer makes an informed choice, we are sorry, however, that although you found you well, you define the building as "sad" (not the apartment fortunately). It does not claim to be cheerful or modern, it is simply an "important" building in the center. Luckily, from inside the apartment you can't see the building from outside and your pain has faded.
What really hurts is the grade (3 stars, no one had ever found it so bad) and especially the motivation "too expensive". We are sorry but it is not acceptable (you knew the price before booking and if you did it is because you found it convenient or at least correct), ruining a judgment for the price (which you knew) is not correct on your part. Cortina is not the third world and probably in S. Moritz in your Switzerland (country that I love) prices are even more expensive (I would never put 1 star for this!). The rental price is a % of the value of a property and in the centre of Cortina the apartments are worth a lot... unfortunately.
Best regards and thanks for your trust
Appartamento molto confortevole e perfettamente accessoriato e riscaldato. La proprietaria è stata disponibile e cordiale. Si trova in pieno centro, comodissimo ai parcheggi ed a tutti i servizi. A pochi passi dagli impianti. Ideale per famiglie anche con bimbi piccoli. Ci ritorneremo di sicuro!
I signori Bagnoli son stati collaborativi e disponibili.Li ringrazio per la loro correttezza e positività.
Per noi sarebbe un piacere averli ospiti ancora.
Comfortable apartment in middle of Cortina
With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, this apartment is most comfortable and well-located in the heart of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Great kitchen with dishwasher and microwave, plus espresso maker and coffee hot pot. Would be a great place for skiers or hikers in the Cortina area. Only shortcoming is parking which is not immediately available but can be found for a fee nearby.
