Back after 40 years
We found this property to be exactly what we needed for our time in Broken Hill. Travelling with an elderly parent who is dependant on a walker the property was readily accessible. The owner was readily contactable before our stay and extremely helpful. It was a real pleasure to stay
Cute, Cozy, good location and comfortable. Provided us with everything we needed and nice touches such as toiletries and chocolates. Nice comfy bed and plenty of hot water, just what a traveller needs. Gorgeous Chinese for dinner from nearby restaurant that was recommended from list of things left in house. Thank you for our stay. Not sure why some people have not left positive remarks this property. We had no issues. Found an emu outside when we left!
Thanks for the great feedback Debra! It makes it all worthwhile - it's a challenge catering to lots of different needs and expectations. The cottage is definitely cute & cosy - there's no other way to describe it. I'm happy you enjoyed the welcome gift and the convenience of the toiletries. Take care, hope you return.
The cottage is well presented and neat with everything you need, a lovely renovated bathroom and original kitchen. I would recommend this as a great base for exploring the area. The yard is mostly concrete with a small patch of grass for the dogs and due to the buildings there is always shade. There is a bit of road noise at night. If you are after a relaxed homely feel this place is for you.
Not Good, overpriced
At first glance the house looks clean and tidy. When looking deeper it was not totally the case. We could not use the stove grill the bottom plate was dirty and top grill plate missing. We had to wash the cutlery before using as were not clean.
Waiting for visitors on arrival is meant to be a welcome pack as seen both online and in the booklet found in the house. This pack is meant to have sweet, savoury ( cashews, biscuits etc as shown in picture online )and a candle in which we are told to take with us but none of this was there. Also a loofah or sponge in bathroom to use and take with you didn't see that either.
In the welcome booklet it states save power and put on a jumper or pjs and slippers to cope with the cold, but do not take any blankets from bedrooms. Broken Hill is an extremely cold in winter and old houses get very cold very quick. Owners are happy to over charge and take our money but don't want us to use any of their power!!!.
The master bedroom, the window is on the side of house that the sun risers so the crack of dawn your awake, the blind is paper thin, disgusting stains all over and many tears which has tried to be covered with a thin lace curtain. When you sit on side of mattress you all most sit on floor and sleeping lie on mattress and roll into centre.
The second bedroom (which we didn't use)not much privacy. This faces a very busy Main Street. No blind just thin lace cotton and thin blind, so at night with a light on people going by could see straight in. With only thin lace on front windows as cars go past at night all you see is red flashes from their tail lights. And is extremely noisy, cars and many trucks all hours of the day and night.
The price that is charged there should be a BBQ and BBQ sitting area.
Small back yard Which is ok but taken up with a old hills hoist clothes line that's has been pulled out of ground and left there, yard should be clatter free.
I always action feedback and will take up cleaning issues with cleaner. The welcome treats vary. I'll put something on the website to this effect. I've swapped out loofah for slippers instead. The loofahs were not popular. I'll put block out blinds in bedrooms. Careful power consumption is commonplace and responsible and I don't apologize for that. The rate is $110/night. Perhaps you would be more comfy in a motel room for the same rate or more expense.
A BBQ will be available in summer as its only been a holiday home since April and I won't increase the rate. I'm waiting for the hills hoist to be taken away. The majority find the beds great as per reviews on another site. Why did comment on road noise - you booked a cottage on the main road? From this negative feedback I've taken up some points to action.
Comfortable stay in Broken Hill
Comfort Cottage on Williams Street was very comfortable. The coffee, tea, confectionery and toiletries were a lovely touch. Nice clean accommodation, close to town. Only problem was the lack of heating, neither of the 2 reverse cycle air conditioners were working. Despite calling the owner we were unable to resolve the issue and it was quite cold in the mornings in Broken Hill in early August 2018.
Hi Helen. Thanks for the feedback. The heaters are in perfect working order as tested post your stay. If you had contacted me again after my follow up I would have sent someone to set them for you to change the settings from previous guest. Just a small request for future guests, please soak any soiled linens. Accidents happen but a soak in the laundry tub would have been best for the cleaner. Thanks for choosing us. Cheers
A great stay
A great stay for our family (two boys 12 and 14 yrs). Had 3 nights and explored much around Broken Hill and National Parks nearby. House was clean and functional for our needs and well worth it. So glad we stayed in the Cottage. Leelee was very helpful.
Thanks for your great feedback Renae. It's a great place and I'm happy you were comfy. Cheers Leelee
