We rented this Gold Beach house for five days in July. It is located on the north side of the Rogue River with a beautiful view of the Gold Beach harbor and the Rogue River outlet to the Pacific Ocean. The living room has a two story window which provides a marvelous view of bird life and the fishing activity on the Rogue River. The master bedroom has almost as good a view on the second floor. We frequently watched osprey riding the air currents near the house and on several occasions saw eagles fishing in the Rogue. There were two swallow nest in eves of the house and many swallows nearby. The swallows kept the level of mosquitoes and insects low. Thus, we were able to keep the doors open for ventilation even though there were no screens on the doors.
There are a number of problems with this house. It is one and a half flights of stairs to get to the main level. Thus, it is hard work carrying coolers or grocery bags into the kitchen. It is also difficult to carry luggage into the house. Fortunately, we had some young people in our party who did most of the carrying. The main stairway is an old wood stairway and you have to be careful of splinters. The wood walkway on the other side of the house is also made of old wood planks. Many were loose and several were broken. You had to be careful walking on this walkway. It was very dangerous for the old folks.
The outside grill was excellent and we used it several times after some cleaning. The house did not have a well stocked kitchen. There were not enough pots and covers to cook pasta for 6 people. There was not enough flat ware for 8 people, several times we had to hand wash spoons for meals.

Some of the toilets were slow and the house had no plunger. One toilet leaked for the first day of our visit but then stopped. The toilet seal needs to be replaced at some point.
