Diamond in the rough.....this is a awesome cottage on the beach, the sunsets are amazing.
As in previous reviews, there is a diesel power plant adjacent to rear of property, there is also 2 abandoned resorts to the right. So its everyone's perception to how this affects them, we like it because it limited crowding on beach. Barbara is a gracious host always looking to help you enjoy your stay. The only downfalls were the extra firm mattress which we compensated by putting pull out sofa mattress on top and the the small sewer smell coming from laundry room and second bedroom bathroom. This was by far the very least concerns of our stay due to the beautiful beach and cottage. Her neighbor Whitney was a wonderful elderly man who we grew to enjoy having next door. We would definitively recommend this cottage to those that can appreciate its location and not looking for perfect 5 star accommodations but a diamond in the rough....also a side note, you should always bring all property in cottage when locking up for the night, we had a pair of flip flops and sunglasses stolen at night on deck....lesson learned, bring everything inside, but I would definitely return for a stay at this beautiful cottage and very attentive owner willing to go out of her way to ensure you have a great stay
Private, peaceful, perfect beach and stunning views
This was an ideal rental for our family of 4. About 20-30 steps from the porch to the beautiful sandy beach where you can walk for hours. The swimming is perfect right in front of the cottage. Having a car was handy to head out for various activities including surfing, snorkeling, sight seeing, groceries and restaurants. The beds are comfortable with excellent AC in both bedrooms. Having laundry is handy and having housekeeping service every few days was a nice touch. Barbara could not have been more helpful with suggestions for outings and assistance with groceries. She was available anytime to answer questions and provide guidance. We are considering coming back to Barbados so we decided to check out other areas just in case. We realized that Barbara's cottage is truly the best!
Please come back! Maybe you can teach me how to surf....
Let me just start off by saying we plan on going back to Barbados and staying in this cottage .The many pros far outway the few cons.
We had 4 adults and one 2 1/2 year old.
First thing I want to talk about is the owner of the house, Barbara.
She arranged for our transportation to the house and was there to greet us.She is witty with a great sense of humor. She knows the island as she built the house she lives in across the street over 30 years ago. She had arranged for a full size crib for the baby and had it delivered and set up in one of the bedroom before we arrived.Soon after a tutorial about the property she took us food shopping. The next day she took us to her favorite open air fish market where we were able to pick out the exact fish we wanted and watched as they were descaled, deboned and filleted for us(half the price of the frozen supermarket fish). We had 5 dinners of fish and some fish taco lunches. The supermarkets are expensive but barbara guided us to the more reasonable local produce and foods to save us money. The reason Im talking about food so much is that we were so comfortable at the house that we ended up eating all but 1 meal at the house and that was 300 ft down the street at the Bush Bar.
The cottage has been totally remodeled and although the bedrooms are a little small (each with there own full bath and air conditioner) the open living space is wonderful. The kitchen is well stocked and every time we mentioned to Barbara that we missed something from home like a lime squeezer or a chair was broke etc. the new items were there the next day. Pretty cool. Nice tv with netflix and many of the popular US channels. The outside porch has a great seating area and a lower covered patio also.Chairs, beach towels and umbrella for the beach.
Now the main reason this place is so wonderful is the BEACH. Private aqua blue water and nice sandy beach. Our baby couldn't get enough of the water and when we were back on the house porch could swim in her own pool provide at the house. I didn't take any pictures of the house but did of the beautiful nightly sunsets as you are facing directly west.
As stated in the description of the house there is a Power plant down the street. But you don't hear anything. Its just there. There is broken coral pieces in the water from the reef about 5-600 feet out in the ocean.
So Please don't rent this place because if it gets totally booked we won't be able to go back. Just Kidding
Inviting and beachside
Paradise beach cottage. Perfectly named. You do have to drive past a power station to get here as the villa is so well hidden but once at the villa you forget the approach and look out to what is possibly the best beach in Barbados at the end of the garden. The villa has everything that you are likely to need. Bedrooms have aircon and ceiling fans and a ceiling fan is in the lounge area. A cooling breeze flows through the property. Whether you are in the lounge, on the Veranda or on the patio you will have outstanding view of the beach and Caribbean Sea just at the end of the garden. We spent most evenings sat here taking in the amazing views of the sunsets and cruise ships. During the day geckos often visited on the veranda and humming birds busied themselves on the colourful range of plants in the garden. In the evening we watched the fire-flies dancing about the garden. We also had a visit from a native monkey. The are many local bars and restaurants plus beach bars within easy distance and for a drink, just down the lane at backof villa is the Bush bar. A typical Barbadian bar.
The property is owned and run by Barbara. What can we say about Barbara. We were met by her on arrival and from the start her personality shone through. You instantly feel like you have met a long-standing friend. There is nothing she will not do for you to ensure your stay is enjoyable and comfortable. Once we were settled in she took us to the local supermarket so we could buy provisions and volunteered to take us to places of interest on the island. We would not impose on her for this and hired a car instead. ( She has an arrangement where you can get a discount on car-hire ). This lady is an encyclopaedia of knowledge about the island and where to go and genuinely enjoys ensuring that her guests have the best possible holiday while staying at her villa. You do not want to leave. If you want to enjoy your holiday and relax, do not look elsewhere as this can not be beaten. A must to stay at and definitely somewhere to return to. Thank you Barbara
Paradise Beach Cottage
Welcoming host. Did everything to make our stay comfortable. Air conditioned bedrooms, quiet and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Helpful and friendly housekeeper. We felt very much at home and part of neighbourhood. Beautiful beach on the doorstep. Helpful tips for places to go and see. Morning Catarmaran trip was booked for us on request, which was wonderful! Beach bar with excellent food at Batts Rock but even closer for a beer is the Bush Bar. 10 minutes drive to a well stocked supermarket and also 10 minutes to Bridgetown for duty free shopping. An excellent location.
A beautiful island with wonderful people!
This was our first VRBO trip and didn’t know what to expect. Before booking Barbra answered all our questions and put our uneasy feelings to rest. The home is beautiful on a even more beautiful beach. The neighborhood is by a factory and abandoned resort. We knew this and after being there we were glad we still booked it. We had 2 miles of beach practically to ourselves. There is a neighborhood bar down the road the grocery store is far but Barbra really makes the difference. She took us to the fish market, grocery store, and she took us on a trip to Aminal Flower Cave and Bathsheba! We found the locals very nice and we ventured out often. The public bus routes were hard to figure out though. When in doubt just ask someone. We loved the island! And when we go back we will stay at Barbras cottage. She is so nice and accommodating. She made it easy renting this VRBO!
Please come back soon again! I miss seeing your foot sticking out of the hammock. It was a pleasure to meet and get to know you.
