Good location - good host
Steve has got a good thing going here. Nice location with lots of privacy. Big covered porch and a nice fire pit out back. He set us up with fresh fish and cut firewood too. Nice touches. You can fit a large trailer/RV in his driveway no problem. We will come back again in the future.
The hosts were awesome - nearby and available if needed (but we did not need to bother them). They were also very accommodating and helpful.
The house was close to downtown but not IN town - just what we love. We watched (and photographed) bald eagles fly into and out of trees in back of the house which borders a large creek.
The bedrooms were large - great for our many suitcases. Each bedroom had its own full bathroom. The beds were comfy and the curtains were room-darkening.
The house was well stocked with condiments, paper goods, towels and coffee supplies. The kitchen was well-equipped - there was a nice array of pots and pans, bowls, dishes and flatware. The gas grill on the porch worked great. (We like to cook.)
The Internet was fast and reliable. That's a plus because cell service in much of that area was 3G rather than LTE for Verizon customers.
They had a lot of print info about Seward and things to do, places to go in the area. We did not turn on the TV but assume their service was like the whole experience - great.
The hosts suggested we hike Exit Glacier and we did. The visitor center, the glacier experience and our hike towards the Harding Ice Field were fantastic.
We also drove to Cooper Landing and hiked to Russian River Falls to watch salmon swimming/jumping upstream. We spent time at lower reaches of the river and watched sport fishermen reel in salmon, Dolly Varden and trout. We hoped to see brown bear but they did not come out for us.
Having a washer/dryer was a huge plus. We got pretty dirty and wet hiking at Exit Glacier in the light mist/rain. It was nice to clean our clothes before moving on to our next destination.
Finally, we opted for a fire in the wood stove to warm the chill. It added to the already cozy atmosphere as we watched the flames. It was wonderful to have the wood awaiting us.
Overall, the house was a very comfortable place for our 4-night stay in Seward. We would definitely stay there again. (2 couples touring the Kenai Peninsula)
Clean and quaint
Alaska View Lodge was a great home base for all that we wanted to do in the Seward area. It’s tucked back in a quiet neighborhood. The house was very clean and had everything you could need - even extra umbrellas which was great since it rained non-stop while we were here!
We had a great stay Aug. 11 & 12 at Steve's place outside Seward. It is comfortably furnished and has a well-equipped kitchen and a nice grill on the deck. The house's location is just a short drive from Seward and Exit Glacier. On our first night there, we saw two bald eagles in a tree next to the river behind the house. Steve was a responsive and generous host. He even shared with us some salmon and rockfish that he had caught!
Perfect place just outside Seward
After a day of fishing and a day touring the fjords, this was the perfect place to return to. Accommodations were comfortable and the cabinets were full of spices and other things to complement your meals. Walking to the river and seeing an eagle, plus building a fire in the fire pit just added to the serenity of this place.
The place is very well maintained and is very comfortable. Owner pays attention to the details and was excellent to work with. Nice to be outside of town with the creek and mountains all around, feels very private even though there are other cabins nearby, but still just a 10 minute drive to town. All in all, I definitely recommend this place!
