Overpriced for the Accommodations
While we were excited for our visit to Casa Parrot Hill prior to our arrival, unfortunately, we were disappointed. We had several pleasant conversations with the owner prior to leaving for our trip, and even planned a meal that was to be prepared for us upon our arrival. After traveling a full day from the States to reach Casa Parrot Hill, we found the house dark and no one there to greet us as promised. After contacting the owner, we learned he had misread the online calendar and had us scheduled to come the next evening. He was able to contact the caretaker to come let us in, however, what we received that first night was a dirty house. (the toilets and floors were quite dirty) We also didn’t receive our prepared meal as planned and promised upon arrival. After traveling 12+ hours, (it was dark by now) we went to bed in a dirty house that was extremely hot because it hadn’t been opened prior to our arrival, and no meal. (we did receive and pay for the meal the following evening, however, the purpose was so we would have a meal prepared after a long day of travel, which did not happen) After so much correspondence prior to our arrival, we never heard from the owner again until I reached out via email a good week after our departure. He has refused our request to have one night refunded to us due to the fact we did not get what was promised upon arrival. We were not comfortably accommodated that first night.
Things to be noted regarding the house: There is no running hot water in the house. This was not something we were aware of when we booked the house, as it doesn’t state it anywhere in the information. The showers are heated through electricity (called suicide showers), and there are exposed wires sticking out of the top of the water spouts. There was also a broken light by the pool area with exposed wires hanging from it. We were provided with one bath towel per person, but there were no hand towels or wash cloths. We had to provide basic items like paper towels, trash bags and kitchen towels. Also, just be aware the bathrooms are small. We are all of average size and could not comfortably change clothes in them. There really isn’t much room to maneuver. Positives were that the property is beautiful and the caretaker was very pleasant. We have visited Ojochal several times before and found the price per night is high compared to other cheaper homes which provide a/c in the bedrooms, hot running water and basic necessities.
Perfect getaway between the beaches and the jungle
With its own ocean view pool, inviting enclosed terraza and abundance of wildlife, Casa Parrot Hill was a serene and comfortable get away in the most perfect corner of Costa Rica. With 20 nearby sandy beaches, howler monkeys overhead, and blue morpho butterflies flitting through the lush landscape, we had plenty to do and enjoy.
This home is close to it all yet away from it all.
My husband and I stayed at Casa Parrot Hill in Ojochal, Costa Rica in November of 2009. It was our first trip to beautiful Costa Rica. We really enjoyed the excitement of San Jose which was brilliantly lit up for the holidays. When we arrived at Casa Parrot Hill, we felt like we were entering Paradise. Mother Nature is at her best here: the jungle, beautiful tropical birds, wildlife, lush fruit and floral plantings. The property is private and has a great floorplan with a bedroom and bath at opposite ends of the house so it is great to share with another couple. The house is well furnished, very nicely decorated, and comfortable. The private pool area was magnificent with beautiful views surrounding you, and it was well kept, clean and very refreshing. The local food is tasty and reasonable. You are close to excellent Pacific beaches and not far from remote indigenous villages. This home is close to it all yet away from it all. We would definitely give Casa Parrot Hill 5 stars.
Thank you for your review of Casa Parrot Hill, Pat and Joe. Humberto and I hope that you will return to our paradise, Casa Parrot Hill, again some day!
