RUNAWAY!!!!!

  • 1 de 5

Planned an eight day vacation, was back on a plane after three days - WORST "vacation" EVER compliments of Fafarau Lodge. Allow me to share just a few "highlights"

> during the 30mins boat ride to island both of us got worse sunburns of lives. On the journey back to civilization a couple days later - the boat canopy was put up. Where was it the first day?

> On the day of arrival the hotwater heater was out - no shower to clean up after a long day of travel

> Place was completely surrounded by Fully loaded coconut trees - Owners warned that the second danger after the sun was falling coconuts. "dont stand under trees could get killed".....We heard coconut "bombs" landing all day & night. We were literally terrified to walk to tye beach out of free from getting killed

> There were a dozen or so small blacktip sharks all around island because they fed them. "Dont worry they are not dangerous". After we moved to a neighboring resort with the same type of sharks, there was a big warning in the room - "Do not go on in water after dark because that is when the sharks feed and can be very dangerous"

> No amount of DEET on the planet could have saved us from the swarm of flies & mosquitos on this place. During the tour the Owners said moquito nets over beds were usless

> There is No air conditioning (My fault for not paying attention to the description of "natural ventilation") so no reprieve from sweltering heat.

> lunch was only fresh caught fish - served sashimi style. My wife does not like sashimi. When we asked for cooked fish instead, the response was "We don't cook during the day because it attracts more flies." A.) Not possible to have more flies. B.) I paid you serve what I want.

> on the surface the island was pretty but a few steps in and you saw junk everywhere, old run down shacks, abandoned building debris, trash, etc

> Advertised cell / wifi was non-existent. Literally had three specific spots to stand to get service, but it was unusable - less than 14.4K baud dial up if you can remember that. Google took 5min to load - just the search box page

> There was ZERO privacy on the "private" island. Proprietors were costantly looming around cleaning, doing chores, in the house WE were staying in. Constant peering while sunbathing on the beach. Wife was changing clothes in our "room" - guess whom she saw in the window....

Respuesta del propietario: Suddenly after lunch, the second day, you told us: “We have to leave, my wife needs air conditioning”, despite being fully aware in advance of the absence of air conditioning. A few days later we received an email from you to get a refund of your stay. We refused and received now this surprising review. -The day you arrived the wind was very strong that’s why we could not use the top protection on the boat. We proposed you to put sunscreen on but you refused. -Unfortunately the hot water heater stopped at 3pm, but was fixed by 4pm. We are sorry for that, and we apologized. When such problems occur, we are used to fixing it on our own, and that’s what we did -The island is 6 hectare large. We told you not to stay under coconut trees, but there are a lot of other places where you can stay. -The lagoon counts numerous fishes in the number of it you find small black-tip sharks. They are not dangerous: we have grown our children here and used the beach quite every day without having any problem. -It is quite impossible not to have flies or mosquitos in tropical countries. We have some here too. We told you that you don’t need to use the mosquito net because usually the use of the fans is enough. -The natural ventilation works well, but only if you let the windows open. -We served sashimi once. You told us that you like fish and didn’t tell us about any food restriction. We have never had any complaints about food, even your wife told us that the food was excellent. -The “old run down shack” is only a copra dryer that we use when we cut the coconuts and collect the copra. In the back of the island, there is a small house under construction where we work when we have no guests, this place is reserved for the staff. -Advertised cell /wifi exist. It is not very powerful, you have to stay in some places to use it. It works, we used it together to join the hotel when you wanted to leave, we use wifi everyday, like today when we send you this answer. -The island is rented in full service with housekeeping and garden cleaning. There were only 2 people my wife and I to serve you. That’s what we call, privacy. You will not get any refund from us, but I just want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to tell to people who are thinking about coming to our island, that they will not find here air conditioning, swimming pool, SPA or some other services they will find in 5 stars hotels, and that we do not pretend to provide, but only what we show on the website.

One of the most amazing vacations ever!

  • 5 de 5

I cannot say enough about how much we loved our two weeks with Patrick, Eva and Nalani at Fafarua Lodge. We came to Fafarua to celebrate my 50th birthday. We wanted to do something with our entire family that would be a memory no one would forget – and Fafarua delivered! We have 5 children ages 14 -24, two are married and one grandchild. We brought the entire family and Patrick, Eva and Nalani took care of us as if we were their close family. Fafarua is an amazing place. It is so pristine with so many amazing things to experience. And we loved that we were on an island where it was just our family with Patrick, Eva and Nalani!

Every morning you awake to fresh homemade bread, eggs and fruit. There are so many things to do and experience and Patrick is passionate about making sure you experience as much of Tikehau as you can. Every day we would load up and go to an isolated beach, snorkeling, scuba, surfing or fishing. It was amazing to fish in 40 foot deep water and have the water be so clear you could watch the fish hitting the hooks! We would come back to a lunch of fish, fruit, and rice/pasta. After lunch we would hang around the lodge swimming, playing on the paddleboards, and getting as much of the sun as we could. Dinners were amazing – everything from fish, steak, chicken, lobster and some of the most amazing desserts we have ever had. Eva is an amazing cook and we looked forward to every meal. We had a number of unique needs – one vegetarian, one celiac, and a couple of that were not real big fish eaters. Patrick and Eva are so accommodating and adjusted to the unique needs of our group.

We loved learning about Tikehau and Polynesia. We loved that Fafarua Lodge is something Patrick and Eva have built on their own over the past 20 years. It is an amazing location and you get to experience island life in way that you would never experience if you were staying at a typical resort. We were introduced to so many interesting parts of island life…preparing bait for fishing, using coconuts in cooking, meeting locals on neighboring islands, planting coconut trees, even hunting for giant coconut crabs in the middle of the night! So many things we would never have even known to ask about. And ending the day paddle boarding out to see a beautiful sunset each night wasn’t too bad either! There was something for everyone to do but we were able to completely relax as well.

When you look at everything that is packed into the experience it rea

Best holiday EVER!

  • 5 de 5

I don't even know where to begin...maybe with WOW! We had the most WONDERFUL holiday experience at Tikehau Fafarua Lodge! The weather was perfect, the food was out of this world, the accommodations were lovely, and probably the best part was meeting Patrick and Evaline (the owners), their daughters, and the staff. What incredibly warm, welcoming, fantastic people--all of them! We felt like we were part of their family. We were treated with the utmost kindness and warmth. We did many amazing activities together--things you could never do on your own unless you were a native with lots of knowledge about the area--and yet we still had plenty of time to be alone, or to take a nap, or to stroll the beach at sunset with no other people around for miles. The perfect balance of togetherness and solitude! And again, I want to mention the food. Evaline is the most amazing cook! We never expected to eat the way we did on the motu. Every day, we had fresh fish, freshly baked bread, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, and interesting local dishes, like breadfruit, baked directly in a coconut shell fire. We felt like we were experiencing French Polynesia the way it should be experienced--from the perspective of the native people who are fortunate enough to live there. I am just so grateful that they were so willing to share their perfect world with us! We thank Patrick and Evaline and the staff for allowing us to be a part of it all.

In nature and learning about Polynesia!

  • 5 de 5

I had a great stay on this island with my family from 5 to 75 years old. We enjoyed discovering the Polynesian way of life, the wonderful cooking from Eva and Nathalie and being in nature! There are lots of wildlife that you see while walking around the island or at the bird island, snorkeling around the motus or diving at the pass! One highlight of our stay was walking on the reef with Faremate and watching him catch a parrot fish with a spear and opening giant clams for us. Another highlight for my family was snorkeling with the manta rays at the cleaning station. The only thing I would say needs to be improve a little bit is planning the day ahead the activities of the next day. We hope to come back soon!

Respuesta del propietario: Thank you very much for your testimonial. We are happy to know that you enjoyed your stay on the motu. I understand that you should have like more planning for the excursions, but you have seen that the wind and, in extension , the sea can change from a day to the other. As the atoll is quite a circle, there is always a place where you have less wind and a safer sea. That's why we prefer to decide in the morning what is the best excursion of the day, especially when we have groups with young children and elderly people, for safety and confort reasons. We will be very pleased to welcome you for your next stay on the island. The staff join me to send a warm "maeva" to the kids and the whole family. Evaline

The Best of Adventures

  • 5 de 5

My daughter and I take an adventure together every year. This year - Polynesian Motu Madness! What’s the review? It’s totally outstanding in every way. Fantastic. Amazing. Completely unique. Everyone you know will be jealous. 5 stars. Stop hesitating and get out your credit card right now! Done.

The question is, who is this experience right for? Things to know:

The house is simple, tastefully decorated, and comfortable but in a cabin-y sort of way. There is solar powered electricity, hot water showers, flush toilets, plenty of fresh water, a propane stove, mosquito nets over the beds, etc. All the basics are covered. Oh and the food is outstanding, if you like fish. I do but my daughter doesn’t. She hates it in fact. But even my fish hating daughter said, “Wow Dad, this fish is goooood.” That Is High Praise.

Are these luxury accommodations? No. More like luxury camping accommodations, in a cabin. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not complaining. I was incredibly well fed. I slept like a baby. I showered every day. It was peaceful. We had a great time. But there were a few discomforts, like one should expect out in nature.

Bugs. I’d say I got about 8-10 mosquito bites over a week even with the nets and repellent. My daughter got 40 or 50. Ug. If you are mosquito attractive, bring the real repellent and be prepared to use it.

Internet/mobile coverage is very poor. I consider this a good thing and so should you. You just flew halfway around the world for a private island experience, right? But if you need regular contact with the outside world it’s intermittent at best. They have a pole with an antenna that connects to the town on another island but it doesn’t work consistently and you shouldn’t rely on it. Just be happy (or sad, as the case may be) when it does make a solid connection.

Hermit crabs are all over the place, even up in the bushes. I thought that was cool, but you might not when you hear them knocking around at night time. If you leave the door open to the house they will wander in and scrabble about on the tile floor all night long.

Are you ready for Fafarua Lodge? You should be: nature-loving, not afraid of a few bugs, like fish, like to swim and snorkel in the ocean, not be put off by a little heat or a little rain. Basically, you should be someone who loves an adventure. My daughter and I do; and we loved Fafarua Lodge.
