Seclusion and views within easy reach of Malaga
A lovely old villa, within walking distance of Alora centre, with extensive and interesting grounds, a delightful turtle pond and very pleasant, secluded "dipping" pool.
Lovely place to unwind
The property was exactly as described and very well equipped. Very comfortable and lovely to have a large area to walk around in amongst the lemon and olive trees. Three cats made the stay fun, 2 very friendly, one very shy. Miguel provided food and we happily fed them. Fun seeing the turtles who also enjoyed the cat food!
Miguel provided lots of information on arrival and instructions to find the cottage were very helpful.
Alora is a typical spanish town, lots of bars and some very good restaurants. Plenty of supermarkets and a large Mercadona so plenty of options for shopping if self catering.
Lots of places to visit within easy driving distance, although progress is slow once off the main roads so allow plenty of time for journeys!!
This property really is as wonderful as all the other reviews state and I highly recommend it if you want to visit this region of Spain.
A little piece of heaven
Casa Altavista is quite simply beautiful and I almost don't want to share it with anybody else! Communication with the owner Miguel before arrival was excellent and he gave very good directions which meant we found the house very easily. He was there to meet us and show us around the house and grounds and it was so interesting to hear about the orchards of lemon/orange/olive trees. We couldn't believe how lucky we were to have found this stunning place! The house has been restored beautifully and with great attention to detail, so many of the original features inside and out have been retained, it's very traditional, homely and I imagine very cosy in the winter. It stays very cool inside during the day if you do as Miguel advises and keep all doors and shutters closed, because of the thick walls - so it did not bother us at all that there was no air conditioning - even at night the bedrooms are kept cool by the ceiling fans. It was over 40 degrees every day and we did not miss the air con, so do not let that put you off. The grounds that the house is set in are just beautiful - and there is a lot of space! You can have a lovely long walk just around your own land! The pool is perfectly big enough to cool down in, only waist deep but in such a pretty little spot amongst the fruit trees, it is so peaceful. There are so many quirky features - the turtle pool is in another lovely spot and I loved going down to feed the turtles every evening and watching them all come rushing to the surface for dinner, very entertaining to watch. Even the three resident cats won our hearts, they live outside but having named them all (as we didn't know their real names!) and had many cuddles with two of them, we missed them terribly when we left! The village is a ten minute walk, very steeply downhill so be prepared to walk home at the end of the night! Very traditional village, lots of pretty winding streets and lots of tapas bars serving lovely food - it seems not all bars are open every evening, but this is not a 'tourist' spot, and there were always a few to choose from. The only sightseeing we did was to get the train to Malaga for the day, well worth the visit, easy journey from Alora station. Somebody put in an earlier review that this place is 'good for the soul' and that sums it up perfectly. Total rest, relaxation and peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. We loved every minute and will return -Thank you Miguel for sharing your house :)
Fabulous
Wonderful house in a fabulous location, feels like it’s middle of nowhere in the hills surrounded by trees but it’s a 10 minute walk to town. The house was spotless, excellent facilities, very comfortable. Loved the pool in the orchard and sitting outside at night. Amazing views from everywhere.
Geweldig huis.
We hebben enorm genoten in dit mooie huis op deze fantastische locatie. Tussen sinaasappel- en citroenbomen met een geweldig uitzicht over de vallei. De gastheer is behulpzaam en zeer gastvrij. Een erg aardige man. Kortom een hebben een geweldige vakantie gehad.
Nature and peace
Fantastic property for a relaxing vacation. The house is very close to the village of Álora. We had a great time discovering the area and the children had plenty of space to play.
