Wow! Te Whare Manaaki!
Ngā mihi nui, nui Ani mō tou awhi, me manaaki, me aroha o tou whare ataahua - thank you very, very much Ani for your help, love and effort put into your beautiful “bach”. Toroa is my partners name so staying here was a tohu/sign that it was meant to be. It was amazing. It enveloped our whānau with love, sun, all the things we needed for our stay. It was magic!
Booking was super easy, queries and requests were promptly answered. The house had everything! A home away from home and our kids absolutely loved it, that they didn’t want to venture out on day 1. The games provided laughter, competition, banter and so much fun. The washing machine was so awesome with our brood. The sun beaming on us at breakfast was heaven. The warmth of the home was amazing.
Being close to Wairere was awesome. Being close to town was a treat. Venturing out to the wharf and river walkway on day two was great and well needed after our kids wanted to hole up on day 1.
I totally recommend staying here. Ani, thank you soooooo much. This is now our go to whare when we are back home on The Coast. Ngā mihi nui 👍🏽👍🏽
It is what it says, really close to town
This 1930’s house retains its original ‘charm’. It’s a lovely place but a bit of tlc wouldn’t go amiss. Very spacious main bedroom, with cupboards with hangers, and a lovely bed. Second and third single bedrooms a good size too. Big lounge, which we didn’t use as glorious weather, but nice sofas and a tv.
The kitchen is small as it’s the original and there isn’t really any work surface for preparation to speak of, dining room table tho in the nook off it. The absence of a rubbish bin is a mystery and one of the reasons we did not cook, we did message the owner asking where it was but no reply.
The shower is over the bath and perfectly adequate but something needs to be done as the water didn’t drain whilst you were in it resulting in 2/3 inches of soapy water around your feet.
Lovely big garden but strangely there were three foot dandelions growing through the garden chairs, which I pulled out so we could use them, even tho the rest of the garden had been tidied judging by the bin full of garden waste. These are little things I know but these are the things that spoil the overall impression. We had a great time tho, and were so near to the restaurants and bars, literally a five minute walk away from the main eateries. Would recommend Babinkas (Sri Lankan curries) Spice connection (Indian) Global Thai and The Craic pub. The walk by the river is great and there was a jazz festival in the park when we visited. A good place for visiting the East Cape particularly Ohope the next town along, fantastic beach, which you can walk to, or be lazy and drive.
Sort the little niggles and this is a perfect place to stay.
