Fantastic Location With Some Pros and Cons
After arriving and checking in, we easily found our apartment with Google maps. It was a short walk from the Friendly Rentals Office, which we appreciated.
NOTE to Americans! Your apartment number on your booking might not match the floor! Ours said Hopper 3, but we were actually apartment #2. A little frustrating after a day of travel.
NOTE #2: THE STAIRCASE IS TINY! Imagine a spiral staircase you’d take to the top of a tower in a church. It’s very VERY tight, best if you pack light or use backpacks. Getting a large suitcase up to the apartment would be very difficult.
Once inside, we were happy with the cleanliness of the apartment, plentiful clean white towels and clean sheets. Also sparking clean glasses for wine and water, so you can enjoy drinks in the apartment. Mattress on the bed is VERY FIRM.
The toilet seat was unfortunately broken and shifted and moved around when you sit down. Also very tight design, door to toilet/shower portion of bathroom was very hard to navigate. Would be harder to do for a tall person!
The NEIGHBORHOOD is phenomenal. This is the part we were the happiest about. Tons of incredible bars, shopping and restaurants only steps away - definitely a lot of tourists but not too touristy like Las Ramblas area can be! Lovely balcony looking out over the nightlife and sunset. Apartment has A/C which is great, since it sometimes gets hot in Barcelona!
Being that it’s in a lively neighborhood, it can get loud on weekend nights, so be aware of this.
Overall we felt safe in this neighborhood. One note, the balcony door in the bedroom didn’t lock securely (you can open it without turning the lock) but it’s unlikely someone could break in since they’d have to climb to the third floor. Still - something they should fix!
Overall I’d recommend this apartment to people who like nightlife and don’t mind a very VERY firm mattress. It was nice to take a break from the busy nightlife, get a nice bottle of wine from the grocery (there’s an ALDI less than a block away which is great for saving money!) and enjoy Barcelona from the terrace.
Great urban accommodation
We - i.e. my daughter of three years and I - were quite happy with our homebase for exploring Barcelona.
The flat is very conveniently located and has allowed us to reach many of Barcelona’s highlights (at least those in the centre) by foot (for all other purposes we were quite close to the bus and metro lines). It furthermore provides you with a great immediate surrounding - though for people that are sensitive to noise: this is a very urban flat, there is a lot of life going on around and if you are looking for silent, this is not the place.
As for the flat itself, we appreciated that it was very clean and really contained everything that can be expected. Since we only went to Barcelona for a few days we especially appreciated that the kitchen was not only equipped with cooking utensils but also with the some spices; all such things one quite often has to buy en gross to use just once during one's stay). Since it was July when we went to Barcelona it was rather warm during the night - the AC that the flat is equipped with, however, provided sufficient cold. The only downside for me was the very, very narrow door and staircase that leads to the apartment - while this would normally not bother me, it was very inconvenient when trying to walk up the stairs with my daughter and all the luggage (which could not be left downstairs). Insofar the apartment cannot be recommended for People travelling with small children (which cannot walk stairs securely alone) alone.
To summarise the apartment at this price is a veritable bargain. The only possible thing that people might object to, would be the stairs (our apartment was on the third floor).
