Just 15 minutes north of town is the beginning of the basically wild East Cape of Old Baja. Kim’s house and casita are in a quiet gated community on a hill with forever views. High marks.
My wife and I had a lovely time at Kim’s casita. Great access to great beaches and Cabo San Jose. Kim is a great host. We hope to return soon.
East Cape Paradise
Our stay at Kim's casita was one of the best 9 days I've ever spent in Baja. The peaceful solitude and overwhelming beauty of the east cape was hard to leave. The casita has everything you need to move in and be comfortable. We spent hours on the hill top palapa watching the fish jump and the fishing boats going to and from their daily catch. Walking the beach and sitting outside listening to the Geckos chirping. Kim is a gracious, friendly hostess who has created a beautiful life for herself that she selfishly offers a piece of to her guests. We found we have many mutual friends and felt very welcome. We will be back!
Lovely & Helpful
Amazing place away from the hustle & bustle. Kim is so helpful and kind, sharing tips and gear and fresh water! Thanks for all your help and planning Kim!
After a very stressful year, we really needed to get away and relax. Kim's casita was the perfect place to do just that. Though "off the grid" we never felt like we were roughing it. Comfortable King sized bed, great hot shower, fully equipped kitchen, views to die for and a great little restaurant right down the hill. There are also several great restaurants nearby and it is just a short drive into town. What more could you need? Well, the wifi was weak and not always available, but we were always able to get connected eventually. Kim was always available if needed, but did not intrude and we were able to unwind. This is definitely someplace we want to return to again and again.
It was nice to meet and host you and Sam. Glad you enjoyed your stay here at my home by the sea and got some quality relaxation in. Yes, the wifi has it's moments, but that's part of off the grid living. Soon enough coming to our little neighborhood, we will have fiber optic cable. After being on our current system for 30 years, it's going to be quite the change for us all in a good way:) Thanks again for your kind words, and hope you can return some time in the future.
Secluded and Beautiful
We stayed here for a week at the end of February and had an amazing time. Kim is a wonderful host who is easy to contact and quick to help if you need anything, but also gives you space and privacy. Her dog Shorty is also friendly and adorable!
The property has a well equipped kitchen, a nice bathroom with good shower, and lots of great lounging areas. Some others have commented that the bed was too hard, we found it to be on the firm side, but very comfortable. We slept very well every night, feeling the cool night breeze and listening to the waves crashing on the beach. It is amazingly QUIET out there.
We saw whales while hanging out on the patio a couple times, which was rad.
The area is very safe, and the guards in the guard house are super friendly. It doesn't seem like an area where you would need to have guards (except maybe to keep the donkeys out), but having them there definitely adds to peace of mind.
Speaking of donkeys, there are a bunch around and they are pretty friendly! Just be careful driving, as they hang out in the road sometimes.
We rented a VW Gol from Cactus rental car company. It was their cheapest, tiniest offering (manual transmission) and was perfectly adequate for getting to and from the casita, as all the roads are paved. If you are interested in exploring the dirt roads further east (the east cape dirt road that runs along the coast, for instance) I would recommend renting something with better ground clearance and maybe 4WD. Cactus rents Jeeps, which is what we will get next time.
Kim provided us with written directions for getting to the casita, which were adequate, but we definitely could have used a GPS for the first time. After driving around the area for a couple days we didn't need the GPS anymore.
PRO TIP: If you have an iPhone and Google Maps App, you can download areas of the world, while on WIFI, and use your phone as a GPS without using any data while abroad. We found this to work remarkably well. Just remember to do it before you leave so you can use GPS to get from the airport to the Casita. For directions, I usually just set the GPS to Buzzards Bar and Grill, which the GPS locates readily and is easier than punching in the whole address.
