Cascada Villa & Jungle Retreat

It was a great way to experience Costa Rica. The house is nice and remote, set next to a waterfall (no better way than to wake up to the sound of water!) The owner was very helpful and communicated with us easily on any advice we needed for the trip. Read the description, as the house doesn't have walls and is open with screens, and you have to climb down a long flight of stairs to get to the house. We didn't mind, and loved that actually. We didn't have too many issues with bugs as some visitors had, which could have been attributed to the time of year we visited plus following the owners directions she sent prior to the trip. It was a great location, and note that it does mention you need 4-wheel drive to access. We rented a small SUV, however; could have possibly gotten away without. Also note that a GPS system is nice to find the house at first, yet it's really easy to get around thereafter.

The house is a 10 minute drive from Dominical, which has a nice natural food market and a few shops. This was a great resource to have close by for cooking.

My husband and I just came back from our vacation at the villa. We loved the location, it's the most picturesque place we ever stayed. However, villa needs some maintenance. Until we arrived there, we did not realized that this villa is 100% open air, the only thing between you and rainforest is a net. I either missed it in the description or it was not clear beforehand. Overall we had a great time, because we always make the best of any situation and we definitely loved the secluded location, yet so close to many great natural attractions.

We just spent 3 weeks in paradise. This amazing place is close to great restaurants, shopping, and trails but far enough away that you are truly staying in a jungle. We have been to Costa Rica 8 times and have never seen wildlife like we have seen Waterfall Villa and Jungle Retreat.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Waterfall Villa. The owner gave detailed instructions that I would recommend following. We had no problems with insects. While we were there we enjoyed seeing beautiful birds, and white faced monkeys. We went on a few birding excursions, enjoyed dinner at several restaurants and smoothies in Dominical. The only drawback to this villa would be the steps. Carrying luggage, and going to and from your car may be difficult if you are not in top shape. I had to stop a few times to rest while climbing the stairs to get to the parking area. Other than that we had an amazing time and felt immersed in the jungle!

I did rate this property three stars because of the scenery. It is extremely beautiful and well worth the effort to get there. However, the fact that the bathroom does not have a full ceiling or a functioning door makes privacy impossible. Also you can't have any lights on at night, which is 5ish or 5:30, because of the bugs is ridiculous. I do understand that it is in the middle of a forest, so maybe this is to be expected. Like I said, it was not what I expected.
