Entering the Villa Arceno estate, you are immediately enveloped in a beautiful landscape of cypress lined hills, olive groves, vineyards and stone farmhouses, creating a perfect Tuscan scene. Il Poggio comes with a pretty garden, swimmng pool, and is elevated across two upper floors, giving outstanding views of the nearby village and the estate. The property is furnished to an excellent standard and offers every convenience for your stay. The large, private terrace is the most perfect setting to enjoy every meal and was saturated with almond blossom over Easter. Il Poggio is perfectly located to enjoy the amenities of nearby Castelnuovo Beradenga, which offers a good choice of local osterias and a local winery as well as a short drive to the historic towns Sienna and Florence, all manageable within a day. A perfect to relax and soak up the Italian sunshine, robust red wines and fabulous restaurants.

We loved our stay at Il Poggio/Villa Arceno. It was a great location - centrally located for day trips to San Gimignano, Siena, Montalcino, etc. The accommodations were terrific for 2 couples - separate bedrooms (one upstairs, the other downstairs) - each with their own bathroom & shower. Well equipped kitchen - even a dishwasher. We were there the 2nd week of Sept and the weather was perfect... harvest just starting in some vineyards, warm days to still enjoy the pool and eating outdoors. Loved having our wine each evening on the covered loggia enjoying the spectacular views. Laurie S.

This is a beautiful house in a fantastic setting. Located on a hill in a huge estate producing olive oil and wine means it is very quiet and secluded and is surrounded by classic views of vines and olive groves. There are 3 or 4 apartments in the adjacent buildings but they are laid out in such a way that you are not overlooked or feel like you're on top of other people. The house itself is clean and very well equipped with everything you need including espresso machine and wifi. The welcome basket is a nice touch and means you don't have to spend time searching out the local shop on your first day. Getting around is very easy as the house is 15mins from one of the main roads. Lots of beautiful places visit - more that I can list here. My one recommendation off the tourist trail would be the town of Arezzo. All in all totally recommended.

It is the second time we have stayed at this lovely villa Il Poggio and we can't wait to return. From moment you pass through tunnel of the Arceno estate you enter in a magic and blissful world of peace and beauty.

Surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, the arrival at end of a country road takes you to a place which is spectacular.

The villa was everything as described on the web site and even more than shown.
It is so easy to settle in to this house, like moving from home to home. It presents high quality and comfortable furniture and is perfectly equipped. Even the WIFi was working very efficiently in spite of being in the middle of the Chianti countryside.

The whole villa was spotless upon our arrival nothing was missing and everything in perfect order. Catherine warmly welcomed us and helped us to settle in quite easily. The welcome food and wine basket was lovely and allowed us to get started after a long travel (from Japan) without the need to rush to the shops straight away.

The correspondence with Anna the owner before our stay has been very helpful, smooth and efficient.

During our stay, the grounds and pool were kept very tidy and clean, the swimming pool is remarkable with fabulous views and set within the peaceful garden surrounding the villa amongst vineyards and olive groves. There you can relax, lounge around the pool, take fantastic walks along the white roads of the extensive estate of Arceno, enjoy the scenery and its breathtaking views and stop by at the Arceno vine estate for a taste of their wine.
Even at 32C degrees, our stay was comfortable and nights cooled down by the ceiling fans. The peace and quiet at the villa is wonderful, the only noise from crickets and birds, at night you can look at the stars in the moonlight.

There are so many wonderful places to visit, from Siena to Florence and Arezzo and all the lovely walled villages in between.

The location is close to San Gusme and Villa a Sesta, quaint Tuscan villages, with some of the most outstanding restaurants around.
All of the recommended restaurants that we tried, we found friendly and providing high quality food. Our favourite, although not the cheapest, is La Bottega del Trenta in Villa a Sesta, the highlight of our Italian food and wine tasting tour.

We would most certainly recommend Il Poggio to anyone wishing for a quality and luxury rental property in Tuscany (although we would like to keep this secret to ourselves).

Being our first trip to Tuscany, we could not ask for more, this holiday has been our dream come true.

We arrived at Il Poggio late evening and were warmly received by Catherine and a welcome basket was waiting for us (which really was useful after our journey!).

The house was as we had expected from the website only more so, clean, well kept and appointed. Catherine has been welcoming, very engaging and a friendly support during our stay (not to mention that she speaks very fluent English).

The views from il Poggio are stunning and the house is set within Villa Arceno, a very exclusive historical estate. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay; being August the weather was constantly sunny and we made a lot of use of the pool which although shared was never busy. We also enjoyed some of the numerous places to eat as recommended by the owners whose recommendations are personal by the sound of things especially ‘La Locanda di Tommaso@ in Castelnuovo Berardenga.

We would not hesitate to tell our friends about this gem, great for the perfect getaway for a wine, art, or shopping holiday, Siena is moments away and Florence an hour. Other locations are in easy reach and we particularly enjoyed visiting San Gimignano the Manhattan of Tuscany!

We have been very delighted with our stay at Il Poggio this summer. The villa and the surrounding estate was more than we were expecting from what was described on the website.

The house was clean and well set up, very comfortable and we felt very much at home. All modern comforts were there, even WiFi and an Ipod station; nevertheless the house is typically Tuscan in character. There was plenty of information available for things to do and where. We (Mum & Dad) enjoyed a wine tasting session at the Tenuta Villa Arceno and the kids loved the swimming pool and the garden. Eating out was made easier as the owners had made some great recommendations and being Italy it was not hard to accommodate the fickle tastes of our children! (But then everyone likes Italian don’t they?)

We had a great time exploring the surrounding area, we loved to walk through the vineyards to the medieval village of San Gusme’ surrounded by olive groves and have lunch at the local trattoria. Not to mention the area of Castelnuovo Berardenga and the extensive choice of amenities it offers in terms of food, wine, spas, sports and historical places to visit. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the visit to Castello del Brolio and the day in Siena when the Palio was run!

Il Poggio’s location made it very easy to get around to sightsee, notably Siena and its Piazza del Campo, Florence and the Uffizi. After boring the kids with history and art we were able to reward them with a session of horse riding not far from the house. Our holiday was all we had expected and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We would not hesitate to recommend Il Poggio to our friends whether with children or not. Our thanks to Catherine for welcoming us and being very obliging with answers to all of our questions and requests, however small. We are definitely planning to come back!

It is always somewhat risky to select a vacation home on the internet for a first time visit to an area. After much searching we picked Villa Arceno. Its excellent website promised that the home will meet our three important criteria: desirable location, architecture typical for the area or country, and complete amenities.
Upon our arrival at Villa Arceno we quickly determined the home not only met but far exceeded our expectations. It is a beautiful home in stunning location in the middle of vineyards and olive groves, and with a great view of the country and the nearby town of San Gusme. The villa, the gardens, the pool area, everything is well maintained. It is a peaceful place but still centrally located for visiting the famous and not so famous Tuscan towns and villages.
We could not have found a nicer place for this vacation and we plan to be back in the near future.

This place looks great on the web site and even better when you get there. We woke up our first morning to the sounds of grape harvesting in the vineyard in back of our house.
Our favorite experience (we did it twice) was to walk from the house, through the vineyard to the beautiful hill town of San Gusme. There were still a few grapes left behind that we enjoyed tasting.
The ample kitchen/living room was very comfortable. We were able to prepare some great dinners there. We did daily grocery shopping in Castelnuovo Berardenga a few miles south of Il Poggio.
The master suite upstairs is beautiful and comfortable.
The in-house ipod has a great selection of music and the selection of dvds includes some great classic movies. TV reception was minimal, but we really didn't miss it. We did not bring a laptop so cannot comment on the wifi service.
The entry loggia that looks so inviting on the web site is wonderful for morning coffee. It is private and has a beatiful view out over the estate.
Barbara, who manages Il Poggio for the owner, was friendly and extremely helpful.
We drove to Florence for a day. We would definitely take the train next time.. Also a day in Florence is not enough time.
The estate's winery, Tenuta di Arceno, is excellent. We had a great tasting (we were the only customers) and bought a bunch of their wine. We also enjoyed the Felsina winery in Castelnuovo Berardenga.
We heartily recommend Il Poggio to anyone looking for a relaxing and beautiful stay in Tuscany.
