Feels like home...

My Husband and I and our dog spent a month here and it was absolutely wonderful. The house is very spacious and it was very clean and organized for our arrival. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, etc. and there was also a good supply of paper products, towels, sheets etc. We also appreciated the supply of books, games, puzzels as well as the variety of TV channels. The view from the back yard was spectacular with many gorgeous sunsets and blue skies. Sitting in the back yard was our favorite past-time along with ball chasing by our dog. The fishing was also not too bad but no real keepers. We had some family visit for a long weekend with 2 rugrats and the house and yard was great for all. We celebrated an early Thanksgiving meal with them and it was easy to cook and losts of room for us all. Outstanding vacation rental and the owner was very responsive and helpful. Friendly neighbors too.

Christmas Vacation

This was great vacation. The house was in a quiet location, beautiful, very spacious, clean, well equiped. The view of the canal was great. The location was great, not too far from the beach, 1/2 hour and the state park was close by. Fishersman's Village was great, shopping, restaurants. This is a great place to take family or visit family close by. Will definitely keep this on our to do list.

A Month of

I am an artist, a cook, and a nature lover. My husband and I spent a month in this kid-friendly, pet-friendly, life-friendly home after three months on the busy Atlantic coast of Florida. I can now return home feeling rested, refreshed and inspired.
I had plenty of room to paint and leave my supplies out and together. The atmosphere inspired creativity. I painted at the table on the lanai and often, distracted by the view, found myself lost in the reflections on the water or the antics of the birds. I loved sitting outside enjoying daybreak with my coffee. Birds, squirrels and one little cottontail usually shared my morning and stayed around. We fed them all.
The kitchen is well- appointed with all I need. There is a good produce market nearby and a wonderful market, Detweiller's Farm Market, in Sarasota and a really helpful local butcher, Kallis German Butcher, for excellent meats.
Short drives will take you to beautiful beaches, riverside retreats, and outstanding restaurants. We didn't investigate shopping places or nightlife. We were there to decompress and decompress we did.
After a visit to Fishing Frank's we put their instructions to use and caught fish from the dock. I have always considered any site that includes fishing as an activity an ideal destination.
I cannot say enough good things about the Wilson's and their Port Charlotte home. The furnishings are comfortable and pleasing to the eye without crowding or over-stimulation. When we pulled into the driveway yesterday, we both sighed. We were home away from home.

Perfect place to stay!

Our family stayed here one week over spring break in May or April. Usually we stay with relatives but because of cramped quarters we decided to rent this house. We had a wonderful time and it was very relaxing to come home to our own place! The house has everything you could possibly need and the tree in the backyard is wonderful and shady and makes sitting outside by the canal very pleasant. We grilled out which was nice. We rode our bikes in and out of the cul-de-sacs and enjoyed it. We ate at a great Italian place in Venice and a great Chinese Buffet in Englewood. The Harbor in Punta Gorda was fun. There is a great store to buy shirts that change color in the sun at the Harbor stores and we went riding our bikes up and down the houses in Punta Gorda and to the park there which was alot of fun. If you want to charter a boat out for fishing I would not necessarily recommend Kingfisher unless they assure you you will go to at least 3 different places. We went with the guy in the smallest boat and he said because it was windy we only stayed in the one area, but the other boats basically the same size fished in 3 different areas that day.
The house was perfect with the lanii and the Wilson's have it decorated so nicely and it was clean which I LOVED! They allowed our 2 small dogs which worked out perfect for us. Mr. Wilson was a pleasure to deal with and our deposit was returned very quickly. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Wilson for sharing your home with us. We had such a pleasant stay!

Great House and Great Times

We visited for about ten days in early March. The house is a perfect vacation getaway. The bedrooms are very nice, but the best room is the lanai with the view of the water. Most of our time inside the house was spent in this room. The kitchen was very well equipped . A nice feature is the indoor/outdoor room that has storage for outdoor toys(my fishing equipment!) and a brand new large refrigerator and bait freezer. The weather was a little cooler a few days, but very pleasant most days.
A few of the places we went, that we enjoyed were: the pool and beach complex (about ten minutes away), Fisherman's Village for dinner, Sharky's at Venice Pier- the kids had a great time finding shark teeth on the beach, and the putt-putt course. We even went to Disneyworld for a day trip.
A big highlight was the boat we rented for a week from Bay Breeze boats and they delivered it to the dock in the backyard. I went fishing every day from the boat and in the backyard. We caught snook, speckled trout, mangrove snapper, sheephead, saltwater catfish, and pinfish within ten minutes of the dock as well as some right from the dock. The kids really enjoyed dock fishing as well as boat rides in Charlotte Harbor to see the dolphin.
It a very enjoyable trip and a welcome relief from winter up north. We can't wait to go back to this house.

Springtime Getaway from Chicago

I’m a planner and this vacation I was challenged by my boyfriend to “go with the flow” and have a week with no agenda (and no checking work e-mails). We stayed with his family (about 10 of us total) and had a fantastic time together. Eating breakfast on the Lanai or outside looking over the water was a great way to start the day and made me quickly forget any stress from back home. The full kitchen was a fun addition – we were able to cook dinners together rather than dining out (although there are plenty of places like “Harpoon Harry’s” nearby for some fresh seafood and waterfront dining). In the evenings, we toasted marshmallows and played board games, a perfect change of pace from sitting on the couch watched TV inside all winter.
Coming from Chicago, we were very excited to experience sunny days in the 70s. The beach is a quick 10 minute drive (we rented a car for the week) so we made sure to spend time there building sandcastles and taking in the fresh air. Also, our group rented a local boat for the week which was great for fishing and seeing groups of dolphin playing in the Gulf.
The area is very pleasant: friendly neighbors, polite crowds at the local shops and beautiful views of the canals/harbor and Gulf of Mexico. This trip to Florida is one I’ll always remember, thanks for the great time and letting us stay in this home-away-from-home.

My husband and I, along with my mother and our dog, stayed here in January 2010 for two weeks. We had a great time. The house is incredibly clean and very comfortable. We instantly felt right at home. We happened to arrive just in time for record cold temperatures. Everything was fine though, as the house had plenty of extra blankets to keep us warm. We gave my mother the master bedroom since it has a shower that was very easy for her to use (she's 89). We took one of the other bedrooms, which was very comfortable. The kitchen is wonderful - there is a huge selection of pans and utensils. With the microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker, we had everything we needed within easy reach. The view out back is really lovely, and the screened-in porch is very roomy. The weather wasn't with us, or we would have used it more. This house is very close to all kinds of restaurants, including Ruby Tuesday, TGI Friday's, Chili's, and plenty of unique little restaurants as well. In 5 minutes you can be on the Tamiami Trail, which will take you pretty much anywhere along the Gulf. It's about an hour to Sarasota, and less time to Ft Myers. We went to Sanibel Island a couple times, which is about an hour away, and well worth the very pleasant drive. The neighbors are very friendly - we met several of them while walking our dog. The next door neighbors are very helpful as well. They left us a package containing information on the area, and a map, all of which was waiting on the doorstep when we arrived. The owners, Don and Robin, had sent us a map before we left, so we were ready for anything. We've only been home a week, and we've already received our security deposit back. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Don and Robin, for thinking of all the little details!
