This studio was clean when we got there. We were told by the owner that a cleaning girl would have been there before we arrived. The size is perfect just for 2 people. The kitchen had most of what you would need, but I did wish it had a cheese grater and cutting board. The barbecue grill didn't work, which was a big disappointment when I went out to grill hamburgers. The view of the lake is beautiful, however it is located on Route 30, which has constant traffic noise which really took away from the serenity of this environment. We had great dinners at the Lakehouse in Lake Bomoseen, and the Iron Lantern in Castleton. In years past, we rented a boat for the week at Lake St. Catherine, but there is no longer a marina there. However, Lake Bomoseen is only 20 minutes away and you can rent boats from there. They will even deliver them to you at Lake St. Catherine. I highly recommend renting a pontoon boat at Lake Bomoseen, pack a lunch, cruise the lake, swim off the back of the boat. This was the highlight of our week. :-)

This little studio apartment is perfect for a couple. It was well-stocked with kitchenware and a gas grill. Access to the lake is across the very busy, noisy VT State Route 30, the major road between Wells and Poultney. The previous tenants did not clean the apartment after leaving, especially the bathroom and shower, so we had to do so before moving in. The dock area needs some work, as the decking that holds the steps into the swimming area was completely broken through, making the steps unusable. We reported these issues to the caretaker and the property owner but have gotten no response; the property is for sale. Wear water shoes to swim here, the lake bottom is muddy and rocky. There was no canoe, but there were two kayaks and a rowboat, and a float to swim to for sunning.
Despite the noisy road and needed upkeep, the apartment served us well and we enjoyed our time at the lake. We brought our own kayaks, and felt safe leaving them on the dock out of sight of the busy road. The lake is beautiful and the kayaking was great fun, with wildlife to photograph and lily ponds to explore. We enjoyed dinners at The Lake House on Lake Bomoseen, at Mio Bistro in Dorset, and The Perfect Wife in Manchester.

Wonderful Getaway

The property was exactly as described and came with all the comforts of home - charming inside and out. The view of the lake from the deck was incredible, especially with the fall foliage. Good fishing right off the dock. Gary, the owner, was great about responding to my emails and even contacted me by phone. His directions to his place were "right on" and we found it with no problem.
Lots to do if you're willing to drive a bit of a distance which was fine with us. We were there primarily for the fall foliage and saw plenty of it in our trips to area attractions which included the Shelburne Museum (wonderful place), Ben and Jerry's factory tour (delicious ice cream!), Vermont Country Store and Bryant's (their restaurant), a drive up Mount Equinox, tour of Hildene (beautiful property), a trip through Woodstock and to the Quechee Gorge. We had a delicious and inexpensive dinner at The Barn Restaurant in Pawlet (fascinating old barn with huge fireplace and the most delicious homemade apple pie!), a great breakfast at Mary's Cafe in Rutland and lunch at Seasons in Manchester to name a few.
We hated to see our week end and hope to return someday.

Really Nice Place!

My wife and I were looking for a place to spend a relaxing, low-key week. I searched online and came across this lovely property which appeared to be exactly what we were looking for, so we booked it.
Gary was great in communicating, both online and over the phone and the reservation/payment process was very smooth. He even sent us detailed directions, which were very accurate.
Gary was also there for most of the week, and we had a nice time chatting with him and his friends. He was also very concerned that everything was good for our stay.
We arrived and the property was spotless and just like the photos. We settled in and headed to town for supplies - the main town of Poulteney was quite a bit smaller than we had pictured.
The dock was very nice, we spent several full days just hanging out on it, swimming and sunning. There's also a nice fire ring, for warming up the evenings.
There were a few small family restaurants in Poulteney, the best of which, Perry's, was closed for vacation most of the week. If you're into fine dining, you'll need to go to Rutland or Manchester, both about 35 minutes away, but a beautiful drive.
Our best meal was at a place called "Little Harry's" in Rutland.
As far as activities, there isn't a great deal to do in the immediate area. It's very quiet, even though there are a lot of camps in the area, and we did some reading, kayaking and hiking. We saw several Bald Eagles and came within about 50' of one while kayaking, which was incredible.
For hiking, we took a geat hike at the Nature Reseve owned by the college which was on Endless Brook Road. It's about a half hour climb, and you get an amazing vista of the Lake and surrounding area. Highly recommend this one!
Overall, this rental was great for a relaxing, do-nothing vacation. Highly recommended!

It's official, Gary's cottage is on our repeat vacation spot. This summer was our 5th consecutive summer visit. We love it here! The local area has a lot to offer, the fishing is great fun, and the cottage is very comfortable. I spent my entire week between the deck, the house, and on the water fishing. This is the first year I caugt a Smallmouth Bass in addition to the usual Largemouth. The girls love the shopping (TJ Max in Rutland is a favorite) and even a boyfrend was comfortable with his spot on the floor and had a great time. I think we are forever hooked on this cottage. Everything you read about such as the beautiful view, great condition, clean environment, and frendly host is true. Just one stay and you'll be back again as a regular - just don't take my week!

Great Week in The Green Mountains

We have been renting online for ten years, and I can honestly say this is one of the best values we've found. The condo is clean, uncluttered and modern, and the views are great. The location is in close proximity to some touristy things to do, but also off the beaten path in a peaceful setting. We rode the tram to the top of Killington, toured Hildene, drove up the Equinox, did some shopping in Manchester and even popped over to Lake George for a day, about an hour away. We also stopped in Woodstock, Bennington and Brattleboro on our travels. The landscapes and views in this region are spectacular. My wife loved sunning on the dock with a frozen Margarita while I was busy fishing on Lake St. Catherine. I caught a 3 pound largemouth bass, but won't tell you where. Ha! Thanks, Gary, for a great stay.

The location is excellent and not commercialized. The owner was very nice and the premises were well kept. The accomodations were clean and comfortable. Having access to the boats was wonderful. The fishing was excellent and there was planty to do in the surrounding areas as well. I would definetely recommend this vacation rental and plan to come again.

Ideal Vacation Spot

We spent a wonderful week on Lake St. Catherine. This is a perfect spot to enjoy the lake from and also not too far from other attractions. During the week we visited Manchester (and its great Northshire Bookstore), Hildene, Billings Farm in Woodstock, Fort Ticonderoga in New York, and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.
The accomodations are great and very comfortable. Gary is a most welcoming and sincerely helpful host who takes great pride in all that he does.
This is a vacation spot we look forward to revisiting some day and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys being at a Vermont lake and taking advantage of the recreation opportunities as well as the sightseeing. We have stayed in a number of places in Vermont and consider this to be one of the best and most enjoyable.

Our stay at Gary's rental cottage was most enjoyable. The
accommodations were very clean and cozy and the view of the lake was spectacular from the balcony and the deck. The garden area in the back was very relaxing as well as the beautifully landscaped waterfalls and koi pond. The champagne and glasses was also a very nice welcome touch when we arrived. We relaxed on the lake, shopped and went sightseeing. We certainly would recommend his rental to others who appreciate such a lovely place.

A great summer vacation

The studio is like a modern cottage that is elevated on a mountain side with perfect views of the lake and distant hills. I was able to park my vehicle adjacent to the entrance steps on a dual entrance private driveway just off the lake road. The cottage appears very new and the nice decor and excellent condition relfect this. It was very clean and everything worked perfectly. It sits next to a beautiful property with a landscaped yard and pleasant water fall that has a calming effect. My wife and I plus our 2 teenage daughters were very comfortable with the sleeping accomodations.
Of course the attraction is the lake and lake St.Catherine is very beautiful. The private dock was a great place to relax and catch a few fish. The best part for me was the use of the fishing boat. One of the best bass areas in the lake is the cove just to the north of the dock. The fishing was excellent and both daughters enjoyed catrching many fish. I was very happy about the huge largemouth bass I caught in the cove. Because the boat is docked right in front of you, it was a simple matter to fish early morning, spend the day with the family, then fish again after dinner.
The surrounding area also hold many interesting attractions. We shopped the upscale outlets in Manchester, visited the Lincoln summer mansion Hilldene, toured Wilson Castle, and even rode the Bromley alpine slide down a winding chute on the green ski slopes. We are saving other attractions for our return trip again this year.
In summary, we all had a great time. The teenagers can't wait to return to the kayaking, boating, and cookouts. The wife enjoys the views and the shopping, and I love that everyone is happy. It's a great spot that we will return often in all the seasons. The host is very friendly and accomdating - he truely wants you to have a wonderful visit.
I recommend this cottage for all the above reasons. Enjoy!
