The Jordaan is a GREAT location and the street was adorable, as is the whole area. As for the place itself, it is, I learned, typically Dutch is feeling. Two downsides, the kitchen is not great to cook in...just don't expect to...maybe just breakfast. But no toaster. The second downside now gives us a lot of laughs. But beware anyone who has trouble with steps or heights! You will get vertigo and possibly a heart attack. Very, very steep narrow winding, curved stairs! Three sets! The photos show the different floors but you can't tell how it's really laid out. The ground floor has a sitting area, a table, a small kitchen and a half bath with a washing machine in it. Then you go up the tiniest, steepest stirs I've EVER seen to the living room with the t.v. in it. It's cute. There is a small terrace with a little tabel and four chairs. The only problem is if you want to have a glass of wine on the terrace, you have to muster the stuff up from the kitchen. LOL, once up there, we'd look at each other and say: The youngest has to get the wine. Also getting luggage up was right out of Laurel and Hardy! Then, the 1st bedroom is up another flight almost, but not quite as narrow and steep as the first flight. It has a bathroom and toilet but no shower (or it does, sort of but you can't use it). The second bedroom is up another narrow flight and has the bath/shower but no toilet! It's a challenge. So when the description says, "1 bathroom, 2 separate WC's" that means the bathroom has no toilet. But great memories and lots of laughs nonetheless. I would recommend to young couples because it is cute and in a hot area.

Respuesta del propietario: It is always heartening to see comments about our house, even those which may seem hyperbolic. While the stairs from the ground floor are steep and spiraled -- in a manner by the way that no Dutch person would find uncommon -- they are fitted with treads and have bannisters for safety and ease. Rest assured that "vertigo and possibly a heart attack" has never occurred among our hundreds of guests, all of whom have found the stairs easy enough to use. The staircases to the upper floors are straight up so we are a bit confused by the reviewers comment about them. There are pictures of the stairs from the ground floor and from the living room on this site as well as on our dedicated website. The kitchen is small, that is true. But no smaller than any apartment style kitchen. It comes fully equipped and has served well the many families who have stayed with us. Perhaps the reviewer may be accustomed to a spacious suburban style kitchen in Connecticut USA. We are sorry that ours did not meet with her expectations or that she may have misinterpreted our pictures of the kitchen which also appear on our dedicated website. That one cannot tell how the house is laid out is belied by the picture of the house itself that we provide. We call our house a 'poppenhuis' or 'doll house' for good reason. And, our other guests have found the scale and the privacy it provides, both comfortable and charming. We are also not sure of the reviewer's point that the bathroom does not contain a toilet. Perhaps every room in the reviewer's house has a toilet. We do have 2 WC's ("American half baths") conveniently located on the ground floor and the 2nd floor. The bathroom on the top floor has a sink, full tub and shower. We ask that those who are interested in staying at our house contact us with any questions they may have if this review causes any confusion.
