A lovely Caribbean home from home

My family and I have just returned from a lovely holiday in Barbados during which we stayed at this apartment for 5 nights (as well as in other locations). The space and facilities on offer were a welcome relief as we had all been squeezed into a snug family room at a small aparthotel in Holetown before moving up to Speightstown. The flat was comfortable, clean and spacious and very well located for walking to lovely beaches, enjoying lots of watersports (diving, snorkling, turtle boat trips etc.). We also loved Speightstown as it is very much a proper Bajan town rather than a tourist resort. The museum in town was fascinating and well worth a visit. The beach opposite the flat was lovely for a quick swim or snorkle or even to sit and watch the sun go down in the early evening. The local shopkeepers were friendly and helpful.
My contact with the owners (by email) was good and they seemed both friendly and helpful - as was the lady who let us in and came to do the cleaning.
We would love to stay again and would recommend it to friends.

In a heavy "developed" island, full of crowded tourist places, this house is nestled in a true banjan little community. On Sunday morning there is plenty of nice celebrations with beautiful music and a real sensation of freedom of faith. Thanks to the location of the property, you will have the opportunity of meeting pleasant people everyday and everywere in town. Nice fruit stalls nearby in the morning streets. The beach is beautiful and always desert in January (what a luck!) just in front of the apartment. All the equipment in the house is new and functional. Both we and the kids had a very good time. Remarkable, if you are not a great cook, is the "Mango at the sea" for a wonderful taste of banjan food - just at a walking distance. Definitely a worthwhile choice and a great holiday home!

On the beach in Speightstown

My sister and I were looking for a place to stay while visiting relatives. She has very particular dietary needs and required the use of a kitchen for our stay, so when we found the listing we felt it was the right choice - as we both required the beach!

We had not been to the island in many years, and had not had a chance to explore much when we had - Speightstown was a good home base to explore the rest of the island, while still having enough charm to not require the use of the car every day. Having the beach at your doorstep never gets old, and we swum often. Larger beaches are within a short distance north and south, but it was good to have a small private beach to one's self - apparently turtles come up on the beach to lay eggs as well, although we missed the chance to see it.

There was a small hiccup with the (new looking) A/C unit which was promptly addressed by the very friendly and helpful owners. I would not hesitate to recommend the apartment to anyone with a car - obviously if you are staying outside of a resort you would probably like to see the island, and it was as I said a great home base. If you are looking for a party then you definitely want to be down on the southern end of the island, with all of the action in Oistins and the Gap, but if you are looking to be able to hear the waves crashing on the beach, this is the place for you.

Respuesta del propietario: We appreciate that these clients had the same feeling about Barados in general and Speightstown in particular as we have: Coral Sands is a quiet haven on the edge of where it is all happening. Pulsating Holetown can be easily reached in a few minutes by car or public transport. More action is on the (often very crowded) southern end of the island, about half an hour drive away.

Ein perfekter Urlaub in einem super Appartement. Der Blick vom Balkon alleine war schon fast die Reise wert. Dazu der kleine "Privat"strand direkt vor der Tür und der Wahnsinnsstrand am Yachthafen - einfach fantastisch.

Die Wohnung war nach Sonja´s Einsatz immer tip top sauber, aufgeräumt und es fehlte uns an nichts. Sogar unser kleines Mißgeschick mit der zugefallenen (und von innen abgeschlossenen) Toilettentür wurde im handumdrehen vom Simon gelöst.

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen und sind absolut erholt mit einem Koffer voller schöner Erinnerungen und Eindrücken heimgekehrt.

Great Value on the Beach

This is a wonderful apartment for a family vacation, exactly as described on the website, clean and very well equipped. We spent a week there in April 2009 with our 9-month-old daughter, and while we weren't able to enjoy any dinners out at the fantastic local restaurants thanks to her early bedtime, we found the facilities more than adequate for a relaxing "stay-at-home" holiday. There are good grocery shopping, street vendors and an excellent bakery accessible by a short walk in town and even more variety available an easy bus ride away in Holetown. The beach is literally at your doorstep and when we put the baby down for a nap and we would take turns popping over the road for a quick dip and some snorkeling while the other relaxed on the terrace with a book and a drink, or just watched the local pedestrian traffic ambling by. There are other excellent beaches for children (a bit more sheltered, with some shade) just up the road at the Almond Beach Club resort, and you can get a great lunch for a great price at the Fisherman's Pub.
The owners were very helpful and accommodating and arranged to purchase a high chair before our arrival which made our stay much more pleasant and cut down on the number of bulky items we needed to bring along. The only thing I would advise travellers with small children to be aware of is that the apartment is on two levels; you need to be able to deal with the open stairwell in the living room. As our daughter was not yet walking we did not find it to be a big problem, but we needed to be vigilant when she was on the second floor with us (the master bedroom/ensuite and living room are upstairs, with the kitchen and second bedroom below). A portable baby gate might be useful if you are travelling with a more active child/toddler.
Speightstown is closer to some of the best island attractions for children and grown-ups than the resorts and hotels further south. The location would cut down on a lot of driving time for day trips to the exciting Atlantic beaches at Bathsheba, the wildlife preserve, St. Nicholas Abbey etc. However, this is also a perfect location for a lazy, stationary holiday - we discussed the merits of renting a car for a couple of days more than once, but we just never got around to it! We have visited Barbados several times and have already seen many of these sites ourselves; we would definitely stay here again when our daughter is ready to enjoy them. Other families were vacationing in the building too.

A portable baby gate as well as a crib will be available from summer 09 onward in addition to the already present high chair. This will make te apartment ideally suited also for families with a small child or children.
